Just threw the fridge in the truck. Impromptu trip to explore Arches NP through Sunday. We'll see how it does since the truck will be mostly parked during the days! Not going to attempt to divide frozen and cooled stuff, just cooled stuff.

Its a PITA trying to get the truck loaded up from 4th flr apt! At least I got plenty of exercise running up and down the stairs. Of course, it looks like my OBW hose sprang a leak at the distribution block. Probably need to fix that since I didnt want to carry a separate water container, threw a few warm gallons in there.

Search Carchet on Amazon. I've used many of their 12v sockets, USB adapters, voltmeter. Great quality.

In short, yes 14 gauge wire is fine.

I'm personally going to run 12 gauge wire myself. The only reason for this is because of something called voltage drop. While the difference will be very miniscule, the larger wire means there will be less voltage drop at your 12v socket. Meaning if you run 12 gauge versus 14 gauge your fridge will see closer to the actual voltage of your battery.

I ran 10 gauge to the RR side of my bed. You need to think about the distance you're going too to keep the power consistent without having voltage drop issues

Voltage drop could actually work to your advantage if you think the low voltage cut-off setting on the fridge is too low. It would mean your fridge would cut back in slower though.

One of my automotive teachers explained voltage; amperage and resistance to me like thinking of a garden hose, the bigger the hose, more water (voltage), the thinner the hose, more resistance and the longer, harder to get the same pressure as if it were shorter (current, amperage).

I'll have to take a picture of my 41 when I get home so I can be first!

I just didn't think I'd really need the extra room on the 51. Its mostly going to be for weekends and just me. Plus I don't drink much any more

Anyone make use of the mounting plate yet? I see the 4 corner holes but I'm confused as to how to use them. Remove the mount, drill some holes with it as a template, reinstall the mount then thread a bolt? Why install the mount for us. I'm obviously overthinking this. Pictures please!

The mounting plate came installed for ease of shipping. A page or two back @Leppz posted some pictures of how the plate mounted to the fridge. Basically a sort of quick release system.

I think the best use of the plate (beyond building a custom slide) would be to bolt it to the back of a seat, so you can use the seat as normal, but when you flip the seat down you can quickly and easily attach the fridge without straps or whatever.

As far as I can tell though, the general consensus is that the mounting plate is kind of silly.

    Check The Build Thread
It seems like the fridges and mounting plates shipped in a few different ways. Seems like some were shipped in two separate boxes, some with plate attached to fridge, and some with plate unattached but in same box (like mine). I haven't even looked at the plate other than taking it out of the box to unpack the fridge.

A small handful of select mods.
I will be mounting mine to the back of the seat this weekend. I will get some pics.

I am a wiring boob, would you run this straight to your battery with a fuse or should there be another level of protection?

    Hehe... Boob

Just an in-line fuse close to the battery is fine!

I'm in the same boat, just not consider myself a boob, LOL. I really need directions on how to wire my frigde to the Tundra. It happens that my truck doesn't have the 12 volt adapter in the bed, so I have to figure out a way to install one. Any suggestions??? And BTW, Fed Ex confirmed the delivery of the fridge to my Freight Forwarder. So hopefully it will be here in 1 week!!!:fingerscrossed::annoyed:

    It's really not complicated! :)

    Step 1:
    obtain
-10 or 12g wire long enough to reach from the battery to wherever you want your outlet (i'm running 10g because who knows what i might eventually plug into that thing!)
-a 12v outlet (can be found cheap on Amazon or princess auto or most places)
-a few crimp connectors (1 for + on outlet, 1 for -, 1 for ground, 1 for the battery terminal)
-an inline fuse holder and fuse! (unless you have an aux fuseblock which im assuming you dont)

    Step 2:
drill a hole for your outlet. depending on the style you got. for mine i just used a 7/8 hole saw

    Step 3:
    run your wires.
-you can run the ground from the outlet to any convenient grounding location, or all the way back to the battery.
    - you must run the positive from the + battery terminal, to the positive pole on the outlet.
    - you may want to (read: should) protect the wire somehow... loom. and zapstrap it up out of the way, usually just along the frame with the rest of the stock wiring harness
Do Not Hook up to Battery Yet!

    Step 4:
Install the outlet into the hole with your wires hooked up

    Step 5:
install your in-line fuse holder and a fuse as close to the battery as practical. with my 10g wire, i will be running a 25a fuse. As long as you fuse below the wire threshold you are fine

    Step 6:
hook up to the positive terminal

    Step 7:
plug in your fridge and watch in proud awe as the little green numbers glow and your well earned drinks begin to cool (or continue to cool if you planned ahead!)

EDIT: I should mention to either heat shrink or electrical tape around each of your crimp connections

    Yup, it's pretty simple. I am going to move my fridge between my two trucks, for wheeling or beach trips etc., whichever truck I am using. I ordered two of these to mount in the bed of each truck;
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01B79F8CW/ref=ya_st_dp_summary

So I will also be able to charge my phone while hanging out near the bed. I ordered a spool of 10 gauge wire and a 10 gauge fuse holder for the Tacoma, my 4Runner already has a blue sea fuse block under hood that I can connect to.
