And also, it makes noise when driving over 20. The best way to describe it would be like a gnarly tread mud tire on pavement. Also vibrates slightly. You can feel it in the floor pans.

The mud tire sound sounds like the bearing to me

Wheel bearing, I went down that road twice in a years time. Sucked ass.

If you have manual hubs, take it in to be changed and have them order a new hub/bearing spindle at the same time, there is more than just the bearing that will need replaced. Two brass bushings will need changed too and they come with the new spindle.

Hub spindle with inner race still attached.

One of the brass bushings and the inner bearing for the CV shaft.

I've got auto hubs, still not looking forward to ripping the front end apart again haha. At least everything will come off without torches this time.

Probably more people than Illinois or Missouri combined ;)

Only because there's so many people in CA that via numbers there are more people who work in trucks. As a percentage who knows?

Read that changing the wheel bearing is very hard and requires a press for 1st gens. Anybody have an idea ballpark of what the cost is for a shop to replace it? I am not sure if it is my wheel bearing, but sometimes I hear a slight hum coming from front driver wheel/tire. Hum goes away when turning or on curves. Perhaps I should rotate my tires to see if the noise goes away.

Only a pain in the dick with locking hubs.
If you have auto hubs, then it's a unit bearing and it's bolted on.

Jack up the front end and check the wheel for play. Up and down can be wheel bearing or ball joint. Good wheel bearings and ball joints will have 0 play up and down.
Side to side is most likely the play in the steering assembly, at least on mine it is. A second set of eyes and hands is almost mandatory to properly check for this.

Thanks! I will do that this weekend. I have ADD so hopefully its easier to replace it its a bad wheel bearing. I had wheel bearing problems before in my previous car and truck but they were very loud and sounded like a helicopter. This is more of a hum.

Wheel bearings on 1sr gens are not cartridge bearings. They will need to be pressed out. Going rate is $50 to press out and press in new bearing.

For the ADD axle? My bad, I must be thinking of the 2nd gen bearings.

This was what I thought. Thanks. $50 isn't too bad. I don't mind paying that and just installing it myself. But I will check to see if my bearing is bad first or if its just the tire.

The way you describe it going away in the turns, I'm almost positive that it's the wheel bearings
