An electronic locking rear differential. It locks the two rear tires to make them turn at the same speed. Drastically increases traction off road.

OK i'm confused. 38K (ish) is MSRP for TRDOR 4X4 with PT/JBL.

If I am reading correctly, you're saying that if one were to drive over to OR/NV or SoCal, you can get that same truck listed above for 34K?

I've done my research when buying my truck. There is no one giving out $4K discounts no matter where you go.

no. Not with the tech package. We aren't talking about the tech package. Without it, MSRP is 34500. Much less than the same truck in NorCal for 38k

Buy through costco if you are a member and you can get below MSRP as well.

Funny you mention Costco. I signed up for pricing, and it spit out 3 dealers. 2 were selling for MSRP, and one was 'guaranteed' $400 off MSRP.

People here in Northern CA is getting hosed on pricing. You can't do much better buying down in SoCal either. I spent a few hours a day going after the best deal, and just gave up and bought my truck at $700 under MSRP at my local dealer whom had the truck I wanted.

My time is much more valuable than wasting away going over pricing....

I was looking at 4Runners. I found that costco could get me 100 dollars over invoice.

Yeah, big difference. 4runners can be had at under invoice all day long all around the country.. 2016 tacomas, not so much.

Which is weird because they are far superior to the 2016 taco in every way...

    You know what? You're right!

Not sure why Toyota even bothers making a Tacoma when people can just buy the 4runner! :)

Exactly! Now we can be friends again.

Glad you saw the light. I was worried that was gonna be a blood bath.

On a serious note, the 2016 Tacoma's are selling like the 2014 4Runner did. People are seeing a change in style and some like it, some hate it. Since the 4Runner style hasn't changed since 2014, there isn't a huge demand for the 2016. If you wait a couple years, the 2018 Tacoma will be easy to get below MSRP.

I'd look somewhere other than the "great" state of commi-fornia. You can buy a whole lot of airfare /gas/hotel for 4k. Just be careful. You leave California you may just get the urge to never go back. It happens to a lot of us

I live in Nevada and had to go to Folsom to get a deal on my truck. The dealers here sell at MSRP plus a bunch of bs to up the price.

:) Dude, sick build on your runner! I do love the current gen, and would not hesitate owning one if I didn't have a need for a truck.

It is that kind of ego that causes prices to rise and why our society's thought process is going down the drain. So many people buy it that don't need it. Remember when 4x4 was less than a 2k option, now everyone gets it to matter what and the prices have sky rocketed. If you don't need 4wd, why buy it? Stop trying to stroke your own ego or impress others you don't know. You may very well need, or say you do and really don't (lots of those people) but when people are considering a 2wd they probably have no need for a 4wd. So why coax someone in to a more expensive truck or a lesser optioned truck just to stay in their budget? Never understood that. If you live where it doesn't snow (let's be honest in a northern big city that is regularly plowed it isn't a necessary some of the times as well) and you aren't off roading they why spend the extra 4k or so on top of all the other added costs (insurance, maintenance, mpg, ect)?

OP, are you going to use or need a 4wd? That's the first question. How important are features to you? How tight is your budget? You will give up features trying to move up to a TRD OR 4x4 everyone is busting nuts over and only you know if that is in your budget.

People think the TRD OR 2wd is useless, well it far from it. You get more truck and features, save fuel, get the look and a rear locker to help in a sticky situation. Not to mention it comes with the same look, tires, ect.

Just be honest with what you need and your financial situation OP. Don't go over budget to stroke an ego like some people on here (pretty much every where actually) and get what is important. Get more amenities for the 3-4k and go for 2wd if you don't need it. Or if you need 4wd and like amenities load up a SR5 4x4 instead of going base TRD.

Good luck and keep us in the loop.

If somebody doesn't think they need 4x4, they may come across a situation in which they need a 4x4. Better to have it than not. When you're sliding and unable to drive up a hill in the snow because you decided to make a trip to go skiing, you'll regret that 4x2
