The table starting on Page 593 of the owner's manual says that the chime can be turned off by the dealer. It shouldn't cost the dealer anything to modify that. Or they shouldn't charge you anything. Famous last words....

what will void is not you changing btw,
what will void is that that software might overwrite some of the other and make TIS useless now.

I've seen it happen to VW, owners do some cheap thing and then can no longer scan with VCDS, not unheard of for others as well.

...but who is going to pay for the tech to hook up techstream and then have a coffee and do 5 minutes of work?

I mean come on thats an 'hours' labour. maybe even two hours.

Well I guess anything can happen. Those lifts big tires air filters seat covers.... Really any non oem part could cause issue. All the dealer has to do is prove it was the fault and any of us are screwed :)

Just go with a $25 adapter, and download the free TIS, and you're safer.

Thanks for the info about the app OP. I used it with my WIFI OBD2 dongle and an iPhone and it worked with my wife's 2015 highlander, I will see if it works on my 2015 tacoma next.

I read it, got the link to the free tech stream software, and a link to this cable: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W97K7O6/

Can anyone confirm this combination is good to go?

That's a busy ecu to keep up with all that. All I do on the 08 is disable seat belt chime and reset maintenance light with key and trip reset button all stoneage like, lol. Bet this would do lots for the wife's RAV4 tho. I would love to turn that seat belt thing off and hers has all that other stuff in the list above.

I was in that thread while it was active.

Links for cheap cables were posted, no actual link to free TIS. The one link posted must be regional because it didn't give me shit here in the great white north.
