    I remember watching some documentary where some guys got a Humvee stuck, the locals couldn't pull it back on the road with a truck, and they took some fire. They ended up just pushing it all the way off and then supposedly melting the engine block with some magnesium flares or something.

    C4 seems like it would have been much more effective. :D

    Most likely it was White phosphorus (Army Slang= Willy Pete), truly nasty stuff but highly effective. Neither are anything you can put out easily, shit will burn under water even.
