    So despite this page: http://www.toyota.com/support/#!/app/answers/detail/a_id/7604

and the manual saying to change the oil every 5k on the 4 banger the dealer and Toyota corporate are saying to do it 10k. Issue mainly arose from the dealer declining to do an oil change on the 5k service and when I called toyota they also said every 10k. Seems very unorganized to have so much discrepancy.

My dealer did mine every 5k under ToyotaCare.

I change my own now, still every 5k.

This oil change discrepancy info and the fact that they can't get trucks out with full differentials or auto trannys....but they do have the ultra-important 5k check in place at the top of the list. WE WILL CHECK YOUR FLOORMAT INSTALLATION just not change your oil. It is not reasonable to go 10k on a brand new vehicle trying to get broke in right IMO. I don't care what the recommendation is, it isn't staying in there for 10k fresh from factory. Change that shit yourself. Even 5k is more than I will ever go on a new vehicle. Mine get changed before they see 2500 miles, then I'll start doing 5k with full synthetic or 3k or conventional. I went 10k on the Volvo we had but geez, it held 7.5 qts. On a 4-5.5 qt vehicle, no way. I will error on side of safety in my favor. Somethin blows up at 7k and they will want to claim 5k and you are past oil change and there goes your warranty. Screw that. I will go 100k between oil changes on a rent car tho............

I changed the engine oil at 2k with toyota oil and everything else with aftermarket stuff at 3k so I'm good in that regard. Surprisingly the motor oil was a lot darker at 2k than the new one is at 3k. I'm assuming the oil toyota used is the same 0w20 the dealers sell hence I make that comparison.

honestly I'm just annoyed with toyotas bs. But as xJuice pointed out that page may be old.

My goal is to let the motor and bearings and all get a nice clean anti-abusive break-in period thru first few k on the motor. Makes a difference on longevity and I want all the initial run period fluff and dander out of the lubrication system fairly quick. Then settle into regular reasonable intervals. I myself don't see 10k as a reasonable interval unless you have a greater capacity like 7.5qts or more like I had in that old Volvo S40 or 60, can't remember which, maybe both. Even then it jacked with me waiting that long with full syn. Didn't go 10k on those first changes either.

Tell them you go 4 wheeling every weekend on dirt roads. It's 5K then... my dealer did it under Toyo care at 5K oil change AND my maintenance light AND Etune warning to get service both came on at 5K.
