As my 2.7 AC 4x4 Manual arrival gets closer and closer, I'm getting cold feet. Any of you 2.7 owners regret getting the 4 cylinder?

I know there isn't any "put you in the seat" power, but how does it do for everyday situations?

I kinda have some remorse, but I think it a good choice. It cost less to buy and less to maintain, and i drive like grandpa most of the time and will rarely tow anything.

    You're fine.

The auto is a bit of a dog but the manual is a different driver altogether.

Don't let the Internet cause undue fear.

I'm sure it will be adequate for my needs. I drove a 4x2 automatic and it was suffice.

Thanks! Hopefully the new dual VVTi won't cause reliability issues.

A week after I got it I had a huge load of oak firewood in it and I had it stacked up to the cab and it hauled it 20 miles home up and down hills like a champ!

The Ole 05 2.7L 5-speed just picked up a gator HPX diesel 4x4 in a 1200 pound utility trailer and didn't break a sweat. Been doing this for 10+ years with no issues. Your new 2016 will do the same.

Id get the 2.7 over the van motor unless you wanted a DC with 4wd.

Well I'm running 265 75 16 tires cause the little baby 245s had to go lol. Been averaging about 19-20 around the city and about 22-24 highway, occasionally higher. Not to bad for the 31" tires!

She is as slow as a wounded old dog. Makes my stock TDI VW look like a race car. Full disclosure, one of my other cars is a 400hp jag and I used to drive a supercharged lotus. No regrets though. Could not pay me to buy one with the 3.5 (or a fancy auto). No confidence in long term reliability on the 3.5, the 4 banger should be running when it rusts out (and I am doing all I can to make sure that does not happen).

Slow and simple is good. It is a truck after all.

I love the 2.7l Tacoma! Getting 22.5 mpg city driving on my commute (about 20 miles each way). I'm hoping to see 25 mpg when I get it on the highway (which I haven't done yet.)

I was a little apprehensive too because of all the talk about the 6cyl, but my worry was for naught. I couldn't be happier with it.
