I'm thinking about going to Moab this year. Just depends on if my company sends me or to TN before this happens or if I'm still not able to get my lift in time lol.

 

I will be buying the whole cv axle from either rockauto/napa/autozone. I plan on rebuilding the OEM and keep it as a spare.

I didn't know if spending the extra $ for the HD boots would be worth it or not. Where did you get your boots at?

 

Mine are coming from SDHQ but I have ran oem and they are good. I can't compare then to sdhq as I haven't ran them yet.

 

There is no replacement, strength wise, for oem axles. General consensus across TW is Napa axles are the strongest aftermarket with AutoZone being the place you don't wanna buy from. As far as boots go, I bought the SDHQ ones because I trust a reputable off road shops product more then an AutoZone, etc ...... product. I see nothing wrong with the oem boots and at 7 years and 110k miles, of which a lot was offroading and covered in mud, it was about time for one to crack open. They are made of rubber. Mine just cracked at a crease from being in the weather for so long. I have no clue if SDHQ boots are better then oem or AutoZone or Napa, but if I'm only changing them every 100k miles then I'm good with that. They are fairly easy to change anyway.

Make sure to tell them you are a TW member and your username. If you write it in the comments section on the website when you check out, they will "charge" you the original price but take out the discount once the ship it. Pretty much comes out to free shipping. Also let me know when you get ready to do it. You will need some cv axle grease and new inner clamps as the SDHQ kit only comes with the outer clamps. Napa has the clamps but you can't find them based on our truck as they don't sell them that way but I have a part number for the right size clamps you need

 

It's time to change my diffs, transfer case, and manual transmission oil. There are a few helpful threads on TW, but no one single catch all source that I've found. Owners manual doesn't answer everything either....

F/R diffs I'll need 75-90 weight, and 24mm socket and a 10mm hex socket
Manual transmission and transfer case is same oil....but couldn't find what size sockets I'll need for those.

I'm pretty sure it's a 24mm as well. Just did mine around Christmas and I think I remember reading 1st and 2nd gen were the same size. ​

 

I think it's 32 or 36mm
