So now is the chance to get the 14" spring, should i get the king 14" #650 springs now? for less preload.

@jberry813 drop some knowledge on me for my situation.

I dont imagine that hybrid bumper is very heavy so why are you wanting to jump to 700s?

Have you revalved the compression side to be stiffer? Or thought about moving the battery into the back area to get some weight off the front ?

The reason I ask is one of our locals with pelfrey plate, winch and other goodies went 15% stiffer on the compression side to fix his Icon bottoming due to added weight issue.

I also have the heavy V8. Im looking to keep the #650 rate, just 14" long spring, instead of the 13"

Ok, thats a good option as well but why not look at the valving if you are in there anyways?

IIRC, your preload will be the same as you have now if that makes sense. You'll still have to crank down your collar the same as before, except it'll look like less preload because of the extra inch of spring.

i like the way it drives now, just would like less pre load unless its a moot point and just rebuild and move on.

they've told others to go to 14" springs and now they even offer a 14" spring for these when they originally were shipped with 13" #650 springs.

When I had my Icons and I was trying to get info from them i couldnt get the same answer twice. It was very frustrating. Now that ive jumped ship to a custom valved King I see such a difference. But i cant judge a off the shelf Icon to a custom valved anything, that wouldnt be fair.
I guess what im saying is that therr is a whole better world of shock performance once you start to get into the guts and start changing shims. I think its worth the research since youre going to be in there anyways and who knows, you coukd love them even more after a full rebuild like that.

Better jump on here before Jberry shows up and :smash:

A longer spring of the same rate will not affect pre load or anything else for that matter at all. The only thing a longer spring will do is cover up threads at the top of your shock body. You will still have to pre load the longer spring the same amount to hold the front end up where you want it...so technically it is a waste of money. Take your springs off, sandblast and repaint.

I welcome the JBerry rage, if i learn from it then im good to go.

What you're saying makes sense. Spring rate is spring rate.

If you are going to get new springs get Eibach...a spring is a spring is a spring but for some reason they feel mo betta ...might be a mental thing because of the price tag but for real...they feels sexy

    ...too much shit to list.
Sam, IMO you need valving changes, not spring rate or length changes. @LTDSC

That sucks. Seems like a good time for a medium sized UPS to cover the gap.

Although today is not usual weather.

This. My severely limited grasp of valving told me at least rebound needed to be reduced a little. Although new springs could help a little depending on how used the springs are.

No, just dakars with the add a leaf to make it HD. Also, I forgot to mention LR uca's and Wheeler's rear bumpstops.

I was going to rebuild my icons and replace the springs since they have 80000 miles on them. Should I just get the same ones that are on it? 13" 650# or do they come stock with 600#? Keep getting different answers. And should I buy from Icon or get some king or eibach springs?
