Ha! I swear I'm not crazy.

I got stopped there yesterday, never had a ticket in my life. I think my best shot is trying to prove that limit is excessively low. So I spent a half hour timing people. The stretch is exactly a half mile long, typically took people about 45 seconds beginning to end. The average speed ended up being 40.12 MPH. Also, the lowest speed anyone went based on my calculations was 31, and that was significantly lower than anyone else.

20 would be justified during school hours, but seems extremely low for a road of that width otherwise. Trying to get the engineering study from the state to see if the city arbitrarily knocked the limit way down from the DOT's recommendation. Outside Reid, it's 35 and that is more populated and the driveway for the school is actually on that road.

I've found out that in California there is a precedent that if the limit is posted at more than 8 MPH less than the engineering data suggests, the ticket is thrown out on the basis that the area was zoned that way only as a revenue generating speed trap. Might be paraphrasing a bit there.

Short of it is I'm not taking what would be a massive hike to my insurance without a fight.

I agree, during school hours 20 is correct. I have seen (and heard) people fly down that road going much faster than 40 even.
Hell, my road they go about 40 and I am in a smaller residential neighborhood than where that road is.

I thought that was you there. Didn't notice until I went by. Would have waved. Was going to come back around to say "hi". :D

    Good luck with the fight.

In my half hour, based on my math the fastest I saw was 48.5 MPH.

It's a wide road otherwise identical to the other section of Williams St. where the limit is 35. The other middle school is in a more congested area and it is closer to the road and it is a 35. Heck, Dalton Division Rd. (which is narrower and more dense than Williams) is a 45!

I think it should be a 35 and it is only a 20 because either a very vocal resident of that area whined about it or they want to generate revenue from it.

I actually went 20 through there a few times later in the day and I had several people behind me quite angry!

I would guess (know) that there is an influential resident off of that road. :anonymous: One that was recently paved (probably due to that influence).
I am usually going about 30 down that road and people climb up my ass too.
I agree with ya. Hope it works out.

He told me he was obligated to cite me because his sole duty yesterday was to enforce speed on that section. That tells me either someone complained or they know they can catch literally every person who goes down there if they want to. The whole time he had me stopped, people were going by at well over 20.

I have followed school buses through there in the morning that are going 30!

I asked him why it was a 20 and I could tell he was annoyed with that question. He mumbled something about a school and a park and it being densely populated. I didn't push the issue any further.

Damn man. Sorry you got the gaff. :(
I know of no park on that road, unless they are considering the school field a park. o_O
And it is not in session. Very stupid.
Really wish they would sit in my driveway and yank people over.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. There is a park on Pomeroy, but that is probably another half mile away. Didn't challenge him on that, though.

People on my road go awfully fast, too. It's a somewhat narrower road (no line), houses closer together. I go around 30, I see people who have to be doing 40+.

I won't argue that I was going slightly faster than I should have been, but I wasn't doing double what a reasonable speed on that road would be.

    Thanks.
Have been spying that thread a bit.
The family and my truck aren't really ready for something like this (yet ).
Would love to get out there before I croak though. It is on the bucket list.

Definitely, although I think I figured I might recognize you from your band photo. :spy:
Isn't that really why we do this :notsure: I've got 3 kids, 4-11, we just started camping with them last summer. So far on the few we've had they've been hit and miss.

    Who you callin' ugly??

My outdoors stuff came to a screeching halt about 3 years ago (oldest was born then, thing 2 is 1).
But....am getting the truck in shape to be our adventure wagon. This summer he will be ready to sleep out someplace close.
We have lots of great camping near us that I am looking forward to getting out in.

I'm more of a day outing person. I prefer to drive somewhere, hike, and drive back. Even the Whites are doable in a day, though driving 3-4 hours, hiking 16 miles, and driving back can be a little rough.

No kids. Don't want any and am very firm on that decision.
