I have seen a few things here and there on the forums, but never a real consolidated post. I just bought my 08 DC a few weeks ago and have found no real use for all 4 bed cubbies, the 2 that latch closed and the 2 others that are open-aired.

What do you guys use these for? Do you store stuff in them, and if so, what? Did you fab some DIY project, if so, what? Thanks for the input, I look to put these cubbies to good use with some good ideas. Thanks

If you search on here there is a guy that makes lockable steel doors for them (which I want too lol) I've seen on board air connections in there, differential breathers, 12v power connections

To the OP, I keep ratchet tie-down straps in my enclosed bins (2 on each side), they're always handy when I need them.

I used to keep my jumper cables in the bigger bin, but now they are under the back seat.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
Never use them in 6 years. As far as the ones with a latch, kept it filled with plastic bags to put fish in when I catch them, otherwise the non-weathertight nature of them makes them useless.

Ratchet straps and I have a small Pelican waterproof case in them. Everything else is in my toolbox. It's pretty handy being able to grab the straps easily.

That speaker idea is badass, unfortunately Toyota did away with the unenclosed ones for my 2015.

Are those speakers? Were they hard to wire up?

Yes waterproof marine speakers. I tied them into a 500W motorcycle amp. There is input from the stereo, but not very loud. The amp also has a 3.5mm jack, so an MP3 player or Iphone works better for this application.

I keep a roll of garbage bags behind the axe/shovel in that cubby. They don't roll around and they are easily depensed passed the two tools.

The cubby on the other side of the bed in the same spot, I do not use.

The other two are full of ratchet straps and bungie cords. But I put these little D-rings on them for tying down small items like gas cans:

I keep ratchet straps and zip ties in mine. The amount of dirt and dust that gets there prevents me from using them for anything else. I keep thinking about plugging the drain holes, but haven't yet.

I keep my TPMS "bomb" in one of them. Ratchet straps in the other. No use for the open ones. Is there a write-up on how to weather proof these?

I thought it was going to be a perfect place to keep my two inch hitch ball. One drive to work and the sliding around of the hitch bent the fragile metal locks on the inside. cheap cheap cheap

    I use mine for straps.

That said the lack of reasonable sealing drives me nuts, the webbing and ratchet mechanisms get covered in dirt and dust and the straps, when they get wet - get mildew on them.
