We have been wheeling almost every weekend since we got the 2016 DCLB OR 4x4 in December. My wife has been getting very bored of sitting in the truck every weekend. She is into for an hour or two but then she starts playing on her phone or takes a nap.

Of all the places we have been to, Hungry Valley, Calico, Azusa, Cleghorn, and parts of Big Bear all allow the use of Off Highway Vehicles. I started looking for mid sized quads for her. I got her a 2002 Honda Sportrax 250ex. It has a longitudinally mounted 229cc air cool four stroke, completely sealed drive shaft inside the swingarm, front hydraulic disks, and current registration. The guy bought a brand new seat from Honda that was manufactured in November! Those are over 100 dollars new! It needs new tires eventually, they are near bald. We will be servicing the bike on Saturday morning and then taking it out to Stoddard around lunch time!

I haven't ridden my yz250 since I lost my health insurance in college. This has sparked me to clean out the carb and gas tank and get it running again! I'm really excited that my wife wants to ride. Does anyone else ride as a family?

Does anyone know where I can get tires for this thing for less than 50 dollar a piece? That seems high for small tires like these....

It's a long bed! It fits with the gate up!

Sweet quad, can't go wrong with honda. Got my first bike when I was about 8 for christmas. My brother is 2 years younger than me and we both got a new honda xr70. Later got a honda quad that i believe was like 90cc. We used to hit the trails and my father had a bike, but unfortunaetly lots of things have changed here on long island so there are not many places to ride legally.

I would mostly ride my bike around the house, and later got a yamaha yz250f motorcross bike that i never actually bought to the race track, just trails.

Since there are not many places to ride legally i just got myself a street bike. First a ducati monster 750, sold it and got a 2007 honda cb919.

I would love to maybe get another dirt bike or quad again someday once i find places to ride. Must be nice out there in cali with all those places to ride. Looks like fun and sweet setup!

Tires for my mountain bike are $55-$65. 50 bucks for quad tires doesn't sound bad!!

I had one of those exact quads years ago. I also had a 250r which was the two stroke race version. Better hold on with the 250r...

Rocky Mountain ATV or Thumpertalk.com will be your best bets on prices. 50 bucks each doesn't sound bad.

Be very careful. My buddy bought two brand-new quads for him and his wife.
30 minutes out into the first trip the wife flipped the quad driving down a dirt road and shattered her forearm and wrist.
I think all the women that ride them at work have all wrecked too.

I agree. I always like reading Eric's adventures and the pics he shares.

I'm loving the long bed. I got SB problems.

And why the hell are we summoned to this thread???
As a former teacher of the ATV safety course I can tell you without a doubt people buy quads without doing their due diligence and tend to buy more than what they can handle. We've had people show up where they could barely operate the controls and we refused to allow them to go through the course. In some instances it meant they were unable to legally ride their ATV's. I've taught well over 100 courses and would see this about one out ove every 6-8 classes.

I also lost a really good friend to an ATV accident because he was inexperienced and riding way more quad than he was capable of. There's nothing wrong with the machine, it's the people that buy them and think they can handle them.

Also, you want to go on record saying you're a sexist? Well thought out!

My girlfriend got mad and bored when I put her on a 90 quad for her first time riding. She had never operated a manual transmission let alone bar mounted clutch and ratchet shifter. Took her awhile to understand why she shouldn't be on a 250 or larger quad. Hopefully it wasn't so boring she never wants to go again.

That's good to hear. I'm a math teacher and know your problems with limited prior knowledge.

I bought this for her because it's got the auto clutch and it's quite slow. It has five forward gears so it has the speed potential but not that fast if she doesn't shift.

We are going out tomorrow to Stoddard. Find a big flat area to start out at.
