Transmission help!

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and wish I had joined sooner. There's a lot of good info in here. Let's jump in with a question! Haha. I have a 1998 tacoma 4x4 with a 2.7l and w59 transmission. I was changing the clutch and decided to change out the leaking transfer case output shaft seal on my front output shaft. I was trying to free up the the staked nut with a hammer and screw driver and I hit this booger and broke it. Could you guys enlighten me on what it is and about how much it would cost?

 

I suggest you contact Marlin Crawler. They have a bible on all of the transmissions and can assist. They are only open Mon - Thurs so get on it. Try and talk to CJ or Big Mike if possible.

It's a sensor of some sort that comes out of the driver side of the transmission. I'm at work now but I'll get a picture of the part itself this evening.

 

probably the sensor that sees you're in reverse and turns on your back-up lights.

This is only a guess.

 

I can't speak with certainty until I go look at my own transmission, but it looks like the reverse switch. I just don't know where they are located on the w59 to be sure that is it.

Should be Toyota p/n 84222-12010 and they're $70ish for OEM.

well thats good. it's nothing super important or something that can destroy a tranny.

 

It is in fact the switch for the backup lights. Thanks for the help guys.

 

Definitely. I was pretty worried. Thought was something a lot more important.
