I don't know how true this statement is. Anybody else care to pitch in?

Fixed mine with some clear Liquid Nails adhesive, took about 15min. No more hood issue.

They are all doing it to some degree. My 2010 4Runner had the same issue. It's really no big deal to fix.

It is a super easy fix. I would DIY in a heartbeat with black RTV silicone (or any number of similar products) if I didn't have a sport (no separation). Definitely not worth fretting over.

Again, anybody with a later build not have to do a ghetto fix?

I wanna post this to give some additional information about the "repair" process to fix your hood vibrations/flutter.

For my repair I used the 3M 04274 NVH Dampening Material, I purchased it from Amazon. I personally would recommend using the 3M NVH over the liquid nails material, as it the 3M NVH was purpose made for this application and has plenty of work time so you can apply as much or as little as needed or just fill gaps as needed. I tried a few spots with liquid nails material and it wasnt as easy to apply (in my opinion)... but it would still work in a pinch if you wanted to use.

I filled every gap I could reach (with in reason), it would definitely be easier and look cleaner if the hood was not attached to the car.... but oh well.

Lastly I would recommend you have a plastic putty knife with you to clean up any excess material you have on the hood *while* your applying it. You can see below where I have some overlap spots on the hood that I could have cleaned up if I had something to scrape it off before it set. Of course some shop rags/towel and some rubbing alcohol as well help to clean up any material you drop.

Its not a hard fix by any means, a little time consuming and requires you to buy some things but I sure this will last me another 10 years plus my hood is rock solid 80+ mph on the freeway. This was much easier than fighting with the dealership.

You can see the spots where I tried the liquid nails, I would still recommend the 3M NVH material instead.

Today I touched it up with some factory 1D6 Sky Silver touch up paint. I used Two paint pens to get what you see below, plus I still have a little left. I could use a 3rd coat to make it look better but I think this is fine for the underside of a hood.

    Nice job, looks good.

How many tubes of that 3M stuff did you use? Also, I'm assuming you bought the caulking gun also.

For all of these do it yourself fixes, there aren't any cases where the hood shows any deformity afterwards?

I would hate to try fixing it and have the hood show any type of wave of irregularity when the dealer should be on the hook to make it perfect...

My hood did not deform after I applied the 3m NVH material.

I hate to send my truck to the local dealer if I don't have to. And my selling dealer is 50+ miles away. For the $50 in parts, I decided to just fix it myself. Gm is having similar adhesion issues on hoods/roofs, So I got the part # from one of their bulletins. Got the epoxy today. Will attempt to fix my hood once it warms up outside

Took mine to a dealer (not the one I bought from since it was a two-hour drive) and after about an hour and a half they told me that Toyota wanted all sorts of pictures and they are sending me to a local well known auto repair chain to have it fixed at their expense.

Thanks for he write up! I'm gonna need to do this eventually if Toyota doesn't come up with a fix. Can you post a pic of the applicator and material used? Thanks!

For those asking, the 3M NVH dampening material comes with 2 mixing/applicator nozzles. If you use the entire tube in a day then you'll only need one.

The gun i purchased was the COX M200LVMR, the handle actually says made in England and feels well made too!

For the folks that used liquid nails on their hood, all I can say I used that shit once before on some wood paneling in my kitchen. Ten years later I removed it an if not for the tack nails I put in to hold it until it set the paneling would have fallen off. I'd never use that crap on anything ever again. It didn't even pull the paper off the sheet roc when I took the panels off. This was 4 foot high tongue and groove paneling.

I plan to use SEM 39977. It serves the same purpose of the 3m product. Comes with 2 applicators. Using a gun that I found at work.
