Was only on the lot for a week, I'd been monitoring / scouring all the local used Toyota websites looking for "the one". Don't know the deal, but sales and service don't often talk.. But the truck was spotlessly detailed. I eyballed the frame, hey, looked ok to me, but didn't try to poke holes in it and didn't even know about the '08 recall, I mean "Service Campaign" until 3 days ago.

Service manager rolled his eyes when I told them I had only recently purchased it from them. So far service team has been very gracious and VERY easy to deal with. Not a new dealership, been around a very long time in center of town... Not their first rodeo...

I bet after you have your frame replaced, you could go back to that same dealership that you bought it from and sell it back for more money or better yet, sell in privately and really make money on it. You were smart to check this forum out before the March 31 deadline, which will save you a big headache down the road, and will definitely extend the life of your Tacoma and increase the resale value. My last truck was a Nissan, that lasted 18 years and hope to match that age with this Tacoma, but after getting the CRC strayed on the frame instead of a replacement, I'm not so sure but will keep applying fluid film and praying too.

Prevention is key. But if you have a bad frame nothing you can do.I cleaned ( anally) clean my truck top to bottom inside out!!!!sand blasted wire wheel grinding wheel chess sprays por15 .Zinc primer etc.....only the front driver side cab mount area. One nickel sized hole.Once that fuse is lit not to much you can do.

I agree, when I brought my truck in 1 year ago for the LSC inspection. The service agent asked me if this came from the south, because the frame looked so good. Seeing how this frame has lived it's whole life in salty Massachusetts, I know my constant washing of the frame made a difference, but wished Toyota's service manual advised treating the frame annually with a product like fluid film, to extend the life of the frame or at least extend the warranty of the frame after the LSC, like the older Tacoma's received. I don't see any other car company replacing 11 year old frames, seeing how this is a voluntary campaign and not a recall, so I really can't complain. You'd think even with the 25 million settlement from Dana, and the years and years of the same rusting frame issue with the older Tacoma's, Toyota would change the design/manufacture/material of the frame, because it must cost money, customer loyalty and just plain headache for both of us.

My dealer just called me back and said while my frame did not pass and I will get a new frame, I can drive my truck until I it comes in. There we 2 tiny holes, nothing too major.

I dropped mine off in the beginning of November. Saw 2 frames in the lot when I was getting the rental an oil change last week. One of them is mine and they were still waiting for some parts.

I finally picked mine up this morning after 4 months. Although I was a little harsh on the dealership in an earlier post, they did do a great job and overall I can't complain much about the experience. The truck rides like new and so far everything works as it should. I had expected them to try to tell me it needed all kinds of things fixed but there was none of that. It sure is nice to look under the truck and see nice shiny parts.

Took mine in this morning, got a call about a hour later, it passed. (Not the verdict I wanted) They're applying the slime, service advisor said it can take up to 2 weeks to fully cure:eek: I underflushed 3-4 times per winter, maybe 1 in the summer. Being in WI it has seen a lot of salt! I guess some frames were rust proofed(using that term loosely) correctly:notsure:

I originally took mine in for the inspection in April of 2015, was told I would get a new frame. They called last week saying it was in. While doing the replacement they tried to tell me I needed new front brakes, rotors, and calipers at a cost of 1500.00....no thanks I will get it done somewhere else. Picked the truck up this week and got home only to notice that the tailgate won't go all the way down because it rubs up against the aftermarket bumper that I just put on 6 weeks ago and on top of that, there are 2 large deep scratches in the powder coated bumper. The bumper fit just fine on the old frame, looks like they just didn't align it well, but there sure wasn't any scratches in it. Awaiting a call back from the service manager.

I picked up the truck today. The compound looks good, no overspray on the body. I have not looked between the frame rails. Customer note says it will remain tacky for "a period of time" it is. "A petroleum odor", it does smell. But the frame is black again. And they did give me a RAV4 hybrid to drive for 2 days. When the weather warms up I will take a closer look.image.jpg

So it looks like I got conditional approval. Toyota needs me to return my truck to "stock" condition, so tires/rims, suspension, bumpers, etc... They want to see pictures after the frame is installed of it looking like OEM. Talk about a pain in the ass, but I guess it's better than getting denied :/

Try to avoid driving it in the rain/snow as long as you can, with the colder temperatures, it will take longer to fully cure. I had the CRC applied over a year ago and it's still tacky. Whenever I work under my truck, I'm sure to wear old clothes, because I still get black marks from the CRC, where I rub against the frame. Having the CRC never fully harden is actually a good thing, because staying malleable water doesn't penetrate through to the frame.

I called the company that makes the CRC, noxadul 300 and they say it's ok to use the high pressure car wash once it's cured, but I'm still hesitant to use that much pressure, so have only used a garden hose at home. According to the company, even if the CRC comes off once it's cured, the frame would still be protected because the CRC penetrates into the metal.
