Most if not all the miles where highway when my brother owned it.as far as he told me the timing belt was changed around 220,000 miles and just routine maintenance.I swear I saw a tear in his eye when I drove it away...lol. but he has a 2015 tacoma now and knows the truck went to the right person (even if he didn't make a dime from me)

Might have been done prior to that I'm not sure..it's another thing added to the list of things needed to be done..I have to say one thing (as a first toyota owner )the truck runs awesome!probably the smoothest running vehicle I ever owned

yeah, at least the 3.4l is non interference so if it snaps you're not gonna be down a huge hole of money. worst case is it ruins your day and you gotta pay for a tow and then have to get the timing belt done right then.

Are these rated at 90k? I know it varies between different vehicles. Anywhere from 90k-130k

90k is when Toyota says to replace them.

2002 xtra cab 4x4, manual SR5 with 191k. Bought it last summer for $8,500. Planning a 5,000+ mile journey towing a 3,300lb travel trailer this summer. Checked compressions and all are 190psi+. Hoping to get 300k out it.

Keep them coming. Wow It seems that these trucks run a lot longer and a little more on the expensive side then I thought. Cant wait till I get one.

My '99 had 187k on the clock when Toyota put a hammer through the frame and gave me a check. Made me sad because I really liked the truck (Extended Cab TRD 3.4 4x4 5 speed) and the body on it was absolutely immaculate. And it still ran like new.

But, the check Toyota cut me cheered me up a bit, since it was considerably more than I'd paid for the truck in the first place.

Just crossed over 106,000 this past weekend in my '04 3.4 auto. No problems with the truck whatsoever. Did timing belt/water pump/tranny flush/etc. around 95,000. Heard of people getting 100k-120k out of them, but didn't want to risk it with some of the long trips I had coming up at the time.
