I am currently testing one theory. That being the possibility of a sticking reset mechanism. Last intentional reset by me I pushed the rod in 2 or 3 times, then let it 'snap ' out. So far I've driven about 200 miles without an 'unintentional ' reset.... I'm not too optimistic that this will work, but it IS a theory..

Please report to both your dealer and Toyota Motor Company, get yourself a Case File Number. We need everyone to rattle this cage.

Well, I was supposed to drop off my truck today at the dealership for the engineer from Toyota to look at (fix?) this issue tomorrow. I just got a voice mail from my dealer saying Toyota needs to cancel at this time. Without getting into the details, based on what the service manager told me, it appears that Toyota is definitely working on this issue. I am supposed to get a call from the dealer when Toyota can schedule another visit. Probably at least a couple of weeks off.

So, even though they seem to be working on a solution, anyone who experiences this issue should still contact Toyota Customer Care and open a case file so that 1) they can see the magnitude of the problem and 2) you may put yourself in a position to receive a notification once a solution is determined.

Encouraging. For whatever its worth, the customer service guy I spoke with at Toyota Motor "sounded" concerned, meaning suggesting Toyota doesn't want technical issues unresolved. Its very important that anyone and everyone report these flaws.
While many owners appear to never see this occur, there are many that do, and repetitiously, like me. I've seen it at least a half dozen times.

I called Toyota and filed a case and I happened to be at the dealership picking up parts and started an open w/o with them also, I spoke with service manager (he's a buddy I golf with) and he says this was the first he has heard of such a thing but hes going to check with his bosses to see how Toyota is fixing this issue.

I reported my resetting odometer to Toyota. It was kind of funny. The gal read to me out of the manual on how to reset the odometer as a corrective procedure. I told her that is exactly what it is doing..... all by itself. She then said the Service Manager at my local dealer would get ahold of me about this. Been about two months. He hasn't called yet.
The truck is due for servicing, I will do diligence and bring it up again then. I am not going to be holding my breath expecting any action from Toyota. Remember how long took them, and how poorly they did to react to the "sudden instant acceleration" problem? That was of a much more serious nature and it took 4 years for them to even acknowledge it was a problem.

Today I noticed that my MPG per tank display was higher than yesterday. I then noticed that both trip meters had reset themselves at the beginning of my commute today. I'm wondering if the battery may have gone weak, but I had no trouble starting. I do notice that if I have the accessory position turned on that when I turn on the ignition the display will show 'Check charging system'. I do have the smart key.

Yesterday I was playing around with the radio settings and did erase the bluetooth profile and re-established it. I didn't do anything with the trip computer related settings though.

Showing the check charging system is normal. Report your problem to Toyota.

I did and got a case number. I also brought up the low transmission fluid question and the person said "I have never heard that issue".

I just got a call from my dealer asking to drop the truck off Monday. They have diagnosed it a an instrument cluster software issue and are going to replace the whole cluster. He stated they need the truck for the whole week and the Toyota rep wants to be there to take pics of the install...

    Where are you located?

Mine was supposed to be fixed yesterday but Toyota had to back out. Wondering if you are in a location where the Toyota engineer resides so they don't have travel.

OK, not familiar with the Eastern US locations where Toyota has engineers. Either way this is more good news that they are working towards a solution.

Same thing happened to me today on my 2016 Limited . Only 495 miles on the odometer and I'm having this problem already . Not impressed. I'm also having trouble with the navigation and getting access to the dial pad on my phone app.
