What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

It will depend on the leaf pack you purchase. The lift numbers given by manufacturer's for AAL and full packs are relative. So you should be able to find a pack that will lift the same as an AAL. Jumping to an entirely new pack though is typically because you want to change the allover load aspects of the bed. Some packs are soft and flexible for trails but will not hold much weight. Some are stacked and less flexible because you want to hold more weight in the bed. If you have a brand new 2016 and are just looking for the lift aspect of it the best bang for the buck is an AAL. Then as the stock leaf pack with AAL wears over time you will most likely know the direction you plan to go with your build.

 

Oh and anyone purchasing the 4runner trd pro wheels you may want to check them out before they get mounted. I ordered 4 new wheels and right before they mounted the tires to them I decided to walk over and check them out. The one they had out of the box I could see a chip on the lip clear down to the metal of the wheel a little larger than a pencil eraser. So I decided to check the other 3 and found the same thing on another one of the wheels that had never been out of the box. Only this chip was on the inside lip. So now I am waiting for 2 more wheels.

Oh and don't let some stupid service writer try to tell you that they can't align your truck. He claimed that it was because I had lifted the truck and because they didn't have the 2016 program in their alignment machine. He couldn't understand what I meant when I told him it was the same as the 2015, but luckily I was able to go back and talk to the tech who seemed to be on the same page as me. So good news is I went ahead and got the truck aligned and everything was able to be set within spec. The most he was able to get in caster was around 1.4 degrees on each side. I am only running 275's so I should be fine.

 

Interesting that ICON would supply something with that much slop in it. I wonder if Toyota changed the size of that pin for the 3rd gen and ICON is supplying the same pin as the 2nd gens.

 

What is the same as a 2015?

 

1 dealer said they didn't have the right alignment head on the machine so they didn't want to scratch my rims so they sent me to another dealer and that dealer said no cus of the after market stuff. They sell lifted trucks and didn't want to touch it I laughed and took my truck elsewhere

 

The alignment specs should all be the same. 99% of the components are all the same. The only difference being that the 2016 sits an inch higher.

 

Ah the alignment specs. That makes sense. But that 1" higher is because of different coils and different shocks. I know that for sure. I haven't had enough time under one though to compare UCA's, LCA's, and tie rods. I was informed that there are different part numbers for the 2016 but not sure what they changed on those components.

 

Need help! I am ordering a Toytec Boss kit today. I want the truck level. What do I need in the rear? I am thinking the 2" AAL will be to much lift. I have 2wd

 

Just installed the ToyTec Boss Lift kit on my 2016 Tacoma Sport DCLB, Only got about 1.25-1.5" of lift in the front....little disappointing that it wasn't the 2.5-3" as described. Am I missing something? I realize with the Double Cab long bed its heavier than the other models...but seems like I should have just gone with some kind of spacer lift to get the full 3" I was looking for. Still looks OK...but wish it was another 1.5" higher. Has anyone else had the same results? Does the SPORT react differently than the Off Road models? Currently sitting at 22.25 and 22.5" from center of wheel to fender. Started at 20.75 and 21"

 

Anything added to the rear for lift?

 

Yes...The AAL and shims that the kit came with. I Had the Toytec spacer lift on my 2013 Access cab and was VERY happy with it...So I went with the Boss Kit and while the ride is 1000X nicer...I didn't get the height I wanted. Should I crank the coilovers? After talking to them on the phone, they kind of told me to leave them where they are at out of the box to get the full lift height.

 

I think where they are from the factory is the way to go. Sucks they aren't giving you the advertised amount of lift. Are you experiencing any rubbing?

 

Just got the truck back last night from the shop. It rubbed on the lower bumper plastic, so I removed that. Haven't driven it since...so not real sure. I will drive it this week and maybe on a trail or two to see if there is any other rubbing. What camber has people been setting it at to reduce the amount of rub if anything? I had the same wheel/tires on the 2013 and it BARELY rubbed...but I also had a full 3" lift...so we will see.

 

@black2016 which kit did you order? I was on the site last week and all of the 2016 kits said 0-2" lift. So I am curious where the 2.5" came from.

Not yet. Just like to see how things are developing with suspension.

 

Me too but a 3rd gen will be in my future in about 8 years or so
