After trying to organize a group buy for the last 2 weeks & nothing to show for it I decided to look into the best deal possible. That thread is all of my research for the last week. If you're an REI member you can ultimately get $70 off a $200 pkg deal.

If you support offroading, 4x4s, or OHVs in any sense, I wouldn't be too keen on supporting REI.

I've had a membership since 1984 (high school) when I had to outfit myself to go on Outward Bound. I'll remember that though. I only went through them b/c I couldn't get an answer back from the manufacturer UNTIL TODAY!! Finally someone got back to me. The deal direct from BioLite is going to be about the same w/o jumping through all the hoops. I'll have the info from their marketing dept by close of business today, 26FEB16 & will post it in the thread instead of the convoluted course one has to navigate with REI.

For what it's worth, once I find out about a company stance towards us, I change my purchasing habits. After NYCO & Sean266 brought me up to speed on microbrewers, I no longer do any business with New Belgium Brewing & I used to exclusively buy from them. Is there a list on TW about who to avoid when buying something? It would be helpful so I don't look like a fool in the future.

meh, REI is the only fool. They are also good at keeping secrets, no surprise there as they know they are losing money with their evil actions. Get the word out.

I think Petzl is another one if I remember right to stay away from now, and that sucks because they make some great gear.

I noticed that, all the outdoor gear companies that have products that I like are all anti-vehicle crap heads. North Face, Mountain Hardware, Jansport, Patagonia, etc. Looks like I'll have to mall crawl naked in the winter.

I'm curious as to what "qualifies" them for this list? do they donate $ specifically anti-offroader organizations or have they made a statement to that point? or is it they contribute to an organization who isn't exactly offroader friendly?

Apparently it's ok to drive a Subaru to these locations, because you know, love is what makes a Subaru. Not factories.

Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to discuss the finer points here, and with good reason.
I have to sign out now or I will go off on a rant and get banned. :D

The ones I'm aware of have signed petitions calling for reduced off road vehicle use to keep parks and open spaces free of use that "destroys the precious dirt" or some BS. Basically groups that want the wilderness to be for animals only with no human presence. The funny or not so funny part is that some of these groups throw their names into the hat on the idea that the petition creators are advocating for saving the wilderness, which an outdoor gear company should be interested in. The reality though is that the petition writers want no people anywhere in the wilderness and so these gear companies are allying with people who want the users of their gear thrown out of the wilderness. Idiots. 1) I don't like supporting anti-vehicle companies with my money. 2) I don't like supporting idiots with my money. So they're basically screwed either way :)

Ban hammer disclaimer: If this is too political, kill it, or whap me with the hammer. If it's the hammer, @sean266 has to buy me a beer at beer outing time.

Hey @NYCO remember when I gave you those brats at Jambo..would you mind pMing the link or info pertaining what you described. That's going to ruffle some feathers. I mentioned to my friend and need some proof to attempt to get it rectified.
    Thanks

When you guys get a 2nd pair of spindles to clean up and gussets on, do you get new bearing also at the same time?

I didn't because our spindles are a bit of hassle to change bearings on. Also, the ones I'm putting on have half the miles as the ones of my truck, so I figure that will be an improvement.

If I had a 2nd gen with know bearing issues, and easy to change bearings, I would.

Hmm, Then I guess I better pull mine and clean them up. I know the history on them and I replaced the bearings <7,000 miles ago.
