Here it is just sitting in there. Don't mind the awesome welds. I literally had one day to get it all on before a tournament and the only guy I knew with a welder was a cowboy with about 2 days of experience welding fence posts. Lol.

 

Can you drill it, add steel thread inserts, and bolt it on?

 

i do pipe and tube welding, and i would probably leave it as is. making a wider pass never looks good on top of thin wall tubing because you have your heat so low. so you pretty much have one shot at it and this looks acceptable. if you didn't have a purge then you didn't fuse the inside edges or the weld would have sank in. and if there is sugar on the inside it won't weld if you go over it again.

 

I could drill and tap the sides similar to the top where I bolted that little flange on. Only problem I forsee with that is it puts the load bearing onto the side guides and they really aren't built to handle any kind of torque. They are really more of just a guide for the center piece.

 

That's what was thinking too, d&t holes in the aluminum block then bolt the the side gussets. For the side gussets, can you bolt them to that blue deck and use backing plates to spread the load out?

 

No way to bolt the side plates down. I'd have to have them welded too. These are the situations where I wish I was a fabricator. A good fab guy could build this whole unit into one solid piece and weld it right into the platform no problem.

 

Thanks, I'll leave it. It's not a structural part so I think it'll be fine. It has very minimal undercut if any at all.

 

Added a thing-a-ma-bob for a jack on a fertilizer spreader for my dad this mornin. Also did some repair on some old rusty booms for a sprayer that was not picture worthy but looked fine with a couple coats of paint.

 

Welding my sliders to the truck this afternoon. Wish they all looked like this or better.

Question... lincoln power mig180 dual for home/fab use. What do you guys think?
I can install the 220v outlet myself no problem.

 

Haven't used one but it should be a solid machine for home use. I had the Hobart 210MVP (also 220/110 input voltage) and never once used the 110 as I thought I would and sort of regretted paying for that feature. That said, are you ever planning on using the 110 plug?

 

I have the miller 211 MVP and use the 110 more than I thought i would because my only 220 is located under the house and I haven't rigged up a extension cord yet.

Yes, mostly away from home obviously having the the 220 available.

 

Sounds like a good machine for you then. There is also the Miller 211 MVP and the Hobart Handler 210 MVP which would be good also. The HH210 would save you a few bucks plus you get 30 more amps of output.

 

Apparently I underestimated 100k lbs of force and damaged part of my press using it to dimple some 3/16". That piece of I-Beam was starting to buckle in the web and deform at the flange (pics are after I patched it up). Built myself a new part, much stronger now.

What's everybody's thought on the Esab Rebel? Any experience with/word on the street?

 

That's the machine I have my eye on. Looks like a great package, but with it being so new there really aren't any reviews on it.
