Garage essentials

I hadn't either, but I'm glad I took a chance on them. The sound is unbelievable. Clarity and and imaging FTMFW.

 

They always say 2 car but I guess they mean those smart cars....cuz most 2 cars arent really wide enough to open one set of doors all the way with another vehicle in them...

 

Tools,floor jack ,jack stands ,stereo,compressor, mini fridge. Oh and posters gotta have posters

space to move around on all 4 sides

good lighting

more outlets than necessary

storage so that nothing had to be on the floor, and as such, the floor could be blown/ sprayed/ mopped. preferably at the back so that the sides could be left open for moving around.

a sink with shelf for draining

another sink for draining oil into a bucket

floor drain

air compressor

lots of windows for natural light

lighting is hard. at least, it has been in my experience. too bright and shadows get cast over your work area. too little, and the obvious.

ventilation. a garage-door-wide screen would be badass...air flow, natural light, and no bugs gathering

 

If you run a wire feed welder make sure its on its own circuit. I rented a house that had a shop and I use a small wire feed welder at times and this place had the lights wired into the wall outlets on a 20amp circuit breaker! so when the welder would start up an arc it usually tripped the circuit breaker and lights air compressors need their own circuit too, they draw a lot of amps on startup...

 

If you are tight on space and still want to fit a car or 2 in the garage. Keep everything modular. All of our shop equipment is on wheels (minus the work benches) which makes it easy to change shop setup. Even our 1500lb milling machine, monster welding table and metal rack is on wheels. Its nice to move stuff around to make space for projects.

 

Yea not many people know what imaging is.

Paradigm are great speakers.

Suggest to replace the tubes as well. Who knows how they were maintained.

 

The amp is brand new, but I do intend to try different tubes just for the fun of it.

Yea fun to play around with tubes. Different ones will sound different.

I think that amp has 4 big 6p14's and 2 smaller 12ax7's.

Efficient use of space, when you don't have much of it.

 

Put in a service door other than the large garage door.

 

This was the first thing I did when I moved into my place. Having a normal walk through door is great so you don't have to cycle the garage door every time. I also put it on the opposite end so I could get the welding smoke to clear faster in a cross wind.

 

A lot of people don't think about that until they move in or build.

 

A good anvil / bench vise combo.
