Wipers don't wipe with spray unless you have intermittent?

I recently bought a 2015 Tacoma double cab base model 4x4. It does not have intermittent wipers, which I intend to change ASAP. I had it serviced yesterday at the dealership I purchased it from because they didn't Simonize it when I purchased it and also there was a dent on the front fender that was not there when I test drove it. I had driven it for about a week after I bought it and noticed that when I pulled the lever to spray the windshield, the wipers did not wipe the fluid off unless I turned the wipers on myself. I told the dealership about this and they told me that it is normal for vehicles with 2 speed wipers to not do that. I've owned vehicles A LOT older without intermittent that have always wiped when you hit the sprayer. Is this true? Or are they pulling my leg? I just find it hard to believe, myself.

I don't know about the 2 speed, but my intermittent wipers definitely don't do that. Hopefully someone with the 2 speed can chime in.... personally it sounds like they're lying to you. Seems weird to me.

I don't remember if my base model wiped with spray before, but after adding the intermittent wiper stalk it does.

    Thanks, Siesta.

I definitely plan on making that my second mod after installing Tracracs to haul mine and my wife's kayaks.

I've heard it's best to get them from a local junkyard. I'll search through some other threads for part numbers.

I just paid the dealer. There's a thread here somewhere with all the info you could want. There are two that fit. The difference between them is the way they spin to set the wiper speed. In the thread, it talks about wiper stalks from other models fitting and finding those cheaper on Ebay.

Normal - no auto-wipe with spray on 2 speed wiper stalk, but is a feature of the intermittant stalk.

So I could just replace the stalk instead of the whole wiper switch? Or is that just a different name for it?

Everything, including the intermittent control, is included in the stalk. It's just a few minutes and a couple of screws to do the swap.

Most of the 5 minute install time is removing the plastic and putting it back on. The only easier mod is the yellow wire mod.

Yes, this is what mine did too. I just upgraded to the intermittent (bought mine on Amazon though I'm running a 2013) and it works like it has on every vehicle I've ever owned now, spray and wipe with one motion.

The sooner you get it the sooner you will thank yourself. I always chime in on these threads because it is so easy and useful of a mod that there is no reason not to do it. I have also been extremely happy with the cruise control I added too. By far the two most useful mods a base owner can add.

Just replaced wiper control with intermitent control from junkyard, 20.00 dollors and works like a charm. Got a rearview mirror with backup screen and auto dim, backup camera works great. Truck was prewired with camera inplace. Mirror was 20.00 also.:amen:
