2009 Access Cab and DOG OWNERS?

My do loves to ride in the bed of my 2009 Access Cab. The problem is the weather is getting a little colder and she will no longer be able to ride in the bed for the rest of the winter. I tried her riding in the rear Access cab seats (with the seats down, and up) and she can't get comfotable. She is about 40 lbs, and the seats don't fold down like in the previous year models...what was TOYOTA thinking?


2 questions: will previous year seats fit in an 09 and has anyone built a platform to make it easier on the their dog?

I bought a shell.
I have a 120 lb. German Shepherd and a 60 lb. "Desert Growler" (I call her that anyway).

Wasn't cheap though and I have to have some steps up for the shepherd. I also had to put in some cheap carpet on top of the bed mat.

But they are glad I have it I think.

 

My only beef with my 2010 over my 2007. Though i don't have dogs anymore I used that nice flat shelf for all sorts of stuff.
Anyone ever compare side by side these two and what would have to be changed to make a 2009/10 like a 2005/07?

 

That's why I love my '08... the dogs ride back there and it's a nice platform. Much better than a regular car seat, too.

You could always take one seat out and make a platform for her. A little plywood, some carpet, and 2x2's. Shouldn't be too difficult.

 

i have a50lb dog and somehow she sleeps on the floorboard with her head rested on the seat in the back

 

Annie weighs 50+ lbs and she would probably fit on the floor, but with the seats down, she has plenty of room to stretch out on long trips. Plus she has a soft cushy bed to sleep on. They're not spoiled or anything like that

 

I purchased a hammock bench seat cover from the Doctors Foster and Smith pet catalog.(drsfostersmith.com) I use it in my 2010 Tacoma Access Cab and my wife's 2009 Rav4. It fits very well and it keeps the dog hairs and anything else the dog gets into from getting all over the vehicle. It attaches to the front and rear headrests. I have a 70 lb. labrador retriever and he has no problem fitting behind the front seats. If you need any more information let me know.

I like my gen 1, but man your truck is the perfect colour and topper if I ever upgraded. That's exactly what I'd want... Nice dogs too.

I have a Leer topper and I call it the most expensive dog house I'll ever buy.

I'll take pictures tomorrow(12/9) if the weather is not too bad. I live in Jersey and we are expecting a big storm. I'll post the pictures as soon as I can take them. The hammock seat cover has adjustments so it can fit almost any width back seat. It attaches to the front and rear headrests. I also put a bungee cord between the two front headrests and attach it to it to keep the dog from trying to get in the front seats. I've had the dog back there for up to 5 hours and he had no problem, but he also loves to go for rides.

 

Thanks, I guess yours has rear headrests; mine doesn't so I don't know how I would mount it on the back. No need to hassle taking the photos; thanks anyways.

 

I've got a 40 lb dog as well and a access cab, he always lays on my subwoofer box which is right behind and flush with the center console and goes to the back of the seats, he definately loves it and looks super comfortable and he probably loves the vibrations on his weiner

 

I have 2 Belgian Malinois's that I train and I used a camper shell and mounted their crates in the bed. The sides are vent-doors so they are not only vented but all 4 sides of the camper open to create a great breeze. I'd recommend a heated mat for the winter if you're worried about it. i have an access cab and a fiberglass cap. use a motorcycle tire tube between cap and the truck. while the tube is deflated stuff it between the truck and the cap then put some air in it. Then you can open the two windows and get some heat back to the dogs, it also keeps down the road noise!

when i had my access cab, with the seats folded back, i took a piece of plywood the length of the cab and width of the back area, covered it with indoor/outdoor carpet, the mounted a 1 foot long piece of 4/4 and alittle more i think and it made a perfect flat platform for my border collie,, his name was buddy, he passed away on jan 31, he was my best friend for 12 yrs and 2 months,, i still have it. and would take pics if needed,,

 

Made this out of wood scraps I had and a few bucks for indoor outdoor carpet. Just lays in there and pops right out when I need the back seats.

 

I made this platform in the back of my 2013 ACLB for my 8 month old 95-100lb St Bernard.
Once he got to about 4 months old, he wasn't very comfortable laying in the back because of the transmission hump preventing him from laying down flat.
It flips up against the back of the front seats easily so I can access the storage under the rear seats, and it comes out very easily without help.
