Crawl control in deep snow

To be perfectly fair to Toyota, besides it sounding like a skeleton is jacking off on the roof at speed because of the hood ... it is a neat truck . If you want a truck to get you from point A to point B and feel safe doing it this is a great truck. If you got it to beat on like a Razor. This is the wrong truck.

 

Deep snow is easy to drive in but, judging buy the weather we are having, we may not find out this year.

 

We've had nearly 5' this week, truck has been great. 23" in the last 24 hours so most side roads and parking lots are not being plowed, work is all focused trying to keep the main roads open. All passes closed today and even the airport for awhile.

Post resurrection!

I was driving around in a canyon today which had some deep snow drifts, 2-4 feet deep and a few hundred feet long. 4-high got bogged down and 4 low got through it alright. Was my first time testing out the crawl feature and it worked great but only did the dirt/gravel selection. Has anybody had a chance to more testing for terrain selection in 2-4 foot snow now that winter is more then half done? I was still sliding around a bit but was not an issue.

 

worst case scenario ... a shovel and a few hours of your life wasted ... :/

Here is a Volkswagon Bug with deep snow crawl control.

 

I believe the owners manual says that for driving on snow covered roads, the mud and sand selection is the one to use.

 

Makes sense, I think that's the one I used to test to crawl feature. As for reading the owners manual... that's all the way in the glove box

 

Are people using crawl control or multi terrain select. Are they not different??? I am guessing you are using MTS in the sand mode!

 

You can use one or the other or both at the same time. Crawl just has the truck computer control the speed and braking so you don't have to touch the pedals.

 

I just can't see going very far in cc. Maybe a driveway or hill and back to regular driving in MTS.

 

Oh it's slow for sure, 7mph max I think I read? Temporary usage or to get over a particularly rough patch of rocks or get unstuck I assume is the intended purpose of the crawl feature. I personally was just testing it for the first time today. Thing that kinda sucks with the terrain selection is that you still have to be in 4 low. Granted it's still geared pretty high.

 

Both crawl control and multi terrain select can only be used in 4Lo. The crawl control speed limit goes from 1-5 mph, you can pick any speed within that range.

The main advantages i have seen of crawl control is being able to get itself unstuck in sand.

 

Yes old post but a little input,

we got 18" of snow in my area over a couple days. I was the first one to get to work this morning and was surprised to see nobody had plowed. Last second decision, I clicked into 4 High and pulled in jumping through the plow line and down the 700 yard driveway I went. Snow flying over the hood, New Falken Wildpeaks throwing snow everywhere and I knew when I stopped, I was done and I was right. Tried crawl but it would stop itself, I think because the way the truck hung itself on top of the snow it couldn't "feel" traction anywhere. Small pull with the plow truck and I was out
