Considering the 2016 has almost double the horsepower, i don't think that's a valid argument.

The 3.5 has no ass off the line, as a matter of fact a member took his to the track and the 60' time is slower than a Prius.

Iv had a few full stomps and light ups not every time but a few I think it's something in the programming though not the motor probably some stupid safety feature

Yea I can't spin my 32's at a light unless I load it up like a retard haha.

If I were to keep this truck long term I'd regear it for better acceleration. No TRD bolt on is going to give any return on power.

He said it feels the same at 20-30 mph...doubling the horsepower would not have anything to do with that.

There are a lot of variables that could have affected it either way.

I can't speak for the factory tires because mine came with Rugged Terrains but it won't brake them lose in the rain. I'm talking straight line, not that turning and spinning bull crap.

I will say, i'm coming from a ecoboost f150 that would turn the whole truck around in the rain if you took off advancetrac. So i have been spoiled by the turbocharged goddess.

No he said UP TO, so yes horsepower would. Meaning once it was over 30 it pulled harder, which it does...once this motor hits 3500 rpm it'll scream.

I put on a set 265/70r17 Goodyear mtr's kevlar with some method wheels on when I say light up I don't mean burn them off but there is some good tire noise and I throw it in the manual shift mode

But I do think the gearing is off on these trucks that I will admit it hates staying in overdrive

Did you mean 0-60 mph...? 60' time is what, like 0-20 or something?

It must be a hard compound tire, rugged terrains won't even chirp.

First is taller than the 2nd gen so they were trying to compensate for the 3.5, should have probably bumped it to 4.10 though and not made 5th a overdrive. Only 6th.

60'...yes, so that would explain why he said it feels equal to his 4cyl to 30mph.

Ya it might be its a hella good tire in snow and mud I like it a lot it's a E rated tire to so idk if that effects the tread compound I thought that was just sidewall weight ratings but ya iv been debating on regearing cuz the plan is long travel lift and 35s but not sure if running 4.88s on 265/70s for awhile will be a good idea

Well the whole point of me test driving was I wanted to get out of the 4 banger truck club. I test drove 4x2 quad cab trd offroad. ETC definitely did help. I also noticed some stuttering on acceleration and a clunk from the rear end on deceleration which i found odd. The top end power was great though.

Gotcha. Well drag racing doesn't really tell much...especially one from 0-30 mph... 0-60 would have been better.

Kinda my point about the truck...it should really be strong on the bottom to assist with towing and maintaining speed at highway speeds when you are typically in the lower rpm range.

Exactly. Once VVTI kicks its on like donkey kong...until then it was elevator music off the line lol. I did not get a chance to test drive the 4runner with 4.0 to compare.

True...unfortunaletly this is the trend midsize trucks are going. More top end power at the expense of low end. I would be more concerned about how how well the tacoma towed once it maintained speed rather than getting up to speed. You shouldn't be going fast off the line either way especially if towing.

If you watched the ike gauntlet of the 2016 toyota tacoma, it did much better than the 2015. Maintained its speed better and had a much faster time.

Disclaimer: i still dont own a 3rd gen. I make decisions very slowly. If i get a 3rd gen it will be a '17 at earliest. I took all of 2015 deciding between a colorado and a taco. 2017 should introduce the new nissan the ridgeline and an old tome favorite...the ranger. So i will
Continue waiting patiently while my 2001 silverado, charlene, keeps on keepIn on.

In the meantime, maybe some mods and posts i read on these forums will have convinced me a taco is the only thing for me.

Sidenote: negativity is harsh as effAy round these parts. Ik its the interweb but WoWMoM.
