Traction control only engages when there is slippage.

There isn't any to start with.

you may not "feel" the tires breaking loose, but I guarantee electronics are infinitely more sensitive than human perception. Just try it.

Traction control uses the abs system, you can feel it pulse when it kicks in (and hear it)...also the light on the dash will illuminate. Trust me when i say...mine won't spin, there is no traction control stopping it.

When you turn yours off are you at a stand still and holding the button for like 5 seconds cuz I know there's like two stages to the traction control to fully turn it off you must be a dead stop you can't do it on the fly kinda annoying but ya

It is great to be in the market for a new truck huh? Especially midsize with all these new trucks coming out...good for us with all the competition. Makes them all improve.

I have heard from other members that completely disabling traction control (you have to hold it down for atleast 5 seconds or something) will be quicker off the line. Whether it is true or not..don't know.

If you press the trac button once you are turning off traction control. If you hold the button you are disabling everything which is the addition of VSC (vehicle skid control) and Trailer sway control. It does not make your truck faster, but will not limit throttle and activate abs if the system detects a wheel slipping.

The star safety system has been the same since 09, minus the addition of trailer sway control around 13 i think?

i think traction control also limits the output of the engine as well, just not abs

Yes...when it detects wheel spin. Not until then.

Interesting fun fact...the 08 frontier i owned limited throttle to 40% until 30 or 40mph and the only way to get past that was with a programmer. Idk if nissan took off that feature in later years or not.

drive it in the snow...it is definitely noticeable when the trac system engages. You immediately lose rpms and the abs system goes crazy.

The VSC is an amazingly effective system in this truck (and all toyota's with the star safety), I wouldn't be disabling it. GOD forbid someone hits you and makes you lose control it could easily save you or someone else's life by helping you get the truck back in a straight line.

I've used it in snow, wet/muddy fields sliding around and it works....really good. It far out performs GM's stabilitrak and fords advancetrac, although advancetrac is pretty good also.

I live in Utah it snows most of the year here so I grew up in it and been racing dirtbikes forever so being side ways at 70-90mph is another day of fun in the office and sideways in the truck is about the same i always take every vehicle I own and throw it sideways every so often for fun and to tell what the vehicle is gonna do when it is sideways but I think just about everyone I know who grew up driving in snow turns the electronics off there's times you need to hammer down and times you need full lock brakes and the system won't let you do either

There's more to off roading than jeep trails. Out in the desert when prerunning, horse power is king.

The Ranger will not happen until 2018. It will be built at the Wayne, MI plant once current production of focus/c-max is moved to Mexico, and that is scheduled for 2018. All of this has already been negotiated with the UAW. So if you're hoping to see the Ranger return to North America next year, I'm sorry to say that you will be disappointed.
