Why not get a Jeep?

man, jeeps (unless you're a diehard jeep guy) are the perfect summer ride. they are loud, not that comfortable, slow, crappy mpg..etc. but you drop that top, and yank the doors, can't beat it! If you Wheel close to home, super capable(even stock if you have LS rear end) if you have the budget, I say go for it.

 

Once upon a time..., I wanted to be a cool Jeep guy. However, reliability, comfort, and the MPG issues killed the deal for me. My sluggish Tacoma does the job and it is the most reliable mid-size truck on the road as far as I know.

 

man, it sounds like you were dealing with a poorly ran sales dept. that's unfortunate. Toyota is a great brand that produces a quality product. my local dealership is top notch, and very customer service oriented. I'm sorry to hear you had a shitty sales experience, but at least you purchased a quality vehicle.

 

I think Jeeps looks cool but I wouldn't buy one. Jeep resale value is getting better I guess more people are buying them. As we all know Tacomas has the best resale value. You can also remove doors on Tacoma too.

I would get the Tacoma 4x4, use the jeep money to lift it and trick it out. It be awesome.

 

I used to be a jeep guy, but never had a wrangler. First "car" was a '71 grand wagoneer. I also had a grand Cherokee limited and hemi commander limited.
My ongoing plan is to build my taco up enough to do most of the trails on this island and still be reliable and comfortable enough for a daily driver, and also able to haul enough gear and bodies to take the wife, daughter, and our 3 dogs on camping trips.
I don't hate on jeeps, but my 2 late model jeeps were always in the shop for something. And those rarely went off road.

 

My friend Jimmy and his girlfriend each has a slightly modded Jeep wrangler. Everytime they go wheeling, something breaks. One advantage jeep has is short wheelbase but you could get the Reg cab 4 banger Tacoma 4x4. I'm sure with some mods, it can be very capable and good on gas. The 2nd gen Tacomas 4x4 has sharper turning radius than 2wd for better maneuverability.

 

I was in the same boat, test drove a 4 door rubicon but man is it not comfy inside. The bucket seats in trucks can't be beat, lay out of interior is better in tacoma, towing, the fact you could put a shell on and have a more functional jeep, plus price! Jeeps look sick but other than that they fall short in every category. If I had to get a 4 door something other than taco I would get the new 4runner. Just my .02 tho

 

I find it funny that if you post up why not get a Tacoma on a jeep forum they would rag on the Tacoma like people are here on the jeep.

I have a Tacoma and have a wrangler. Hands down wrangler if I had to choose. Tacoma seats are uncomfortable compared to the wranglers. Not one issue with either jeep. I had a frame replaced on my 8 year old Tacoma. Jeeps didn't need it.

 

I had a TJ wrangler maybe 6 years ago and it was an awesome vehicle. Very fun to drive with the doors off and top down. The jeep was a 4 cylinder so it was extremely sluggish on the highway (slower and more uncomfortable than my 4 cylinder Tacoma). The soft top made it noisy as you can imagine.

I just like the truck much much more. One of the biggest reasons is because it's more comfortable. I find the Tacoma extremely comfortable actually. Oh, and the fact that it had a bed. You can't haul equipment in a jeep.

 

I actually like Jeeps. Would consider that new Rubicon with all the traction control and diff lockers they have. But I do love my Tacoma. Barring some crazy financial disaster, I doubt I'll ever sell it.

 

The Gen 1 Taco seats were just too close to the floor. Always felt like I was driving a go cart. But I love my Gen 2. Very comfortable in it.

 

I have an 07. Very hard seat bottom. Still a little close to the ground. Too raked toward the back.

 

I'm almost 100% sure I'll be purchasing an ecodiesel rubicon jeep truck when they come out.

 

According to KBB, jeeps resale is actually higher than the tacos.

And the doors are a lot easier to remove on a jeep.

 

i have a 2011 taco and my brother has a 2013 JK rubicon. I drive both frequently. i think the jeep rides worse than my taco because of the solid axle up front. as far as mods go his was much cheaper to lift... Probably because i have mid travel, but his jeep will go to much more places than my taco. the tacoma however is a much better platform for overlanding rather than just wheeling on trails because of the bed and comfertability. The jeep is not very comfortable for long distance driving, which we do often. They both have about the same range. I personally like the tacomas v6 better than the mopar. I think the toyota sounds better also. Pretty much just comes down to what your going to be doing with it. Both are great options.

 

I have a 14 Tacoma, but I still have my 00 Wrangler TJ. Parts for the jeep are cheaper, but lifts and such are about the same unless you get a low quality lift. My jeep has a Savvy/ Currie 4 inch lift, 1 inch body lift, 8 dual adjustable control arms, Currie adjustable front and rear track bar, HP Dana 30 front axle, Dana 44 rear axle, Vanco BBK with Black magic pads, Warn Cromo front inner shafts, CTM Ujoints, and Warn outer shafts with the Warn manual hub kit. Rear Revolution gear and axle Cromo shafts, ARB front and rear lockers, all on 35 inch tires. With the quality lift and shocks it rides very well, without being harsh.

I got a Tacoma TRD Sport to replace as a daily driver now. I did add the TRD Pro kit to it. That was mainly to remove the rake. It also rides great. I love both, and have no plans to get rid of either one. Off road they both have good and bad traits. You really cannot compare the two, as they are not even close to being apples to apples. Both were designed for different things. But both are very capable off road.
