Nice, El Mirage or Lucerne Valley are great spots to learn as well since they have dry lake beds. Lucerne is where they have King of Hammers if you want to look that up. Only thing I don't like about El Mirage is that since they out that visitors center in they started charging to visit. Last I checked it was something stupid like $15/day.

Stoddard has a lake out past the train tracks. Few people know about it because it's far from the main area. I haven't been to El Mirage in 10 years. It's too small

Yeah, last time I was at El Mirage was right before they started charging so probably 7 or 8 years. That dry Lake in Stoddard is off the backside of Slash X, right? I've taken my old Rangers through there a few times. Usually too crowded for my tastes.

It's South of slash x down the highway and then East. I don't know how to find it other than riding there from Stoddard. I've never seen many people there
    YES! Thanks for the picture!

Look up. sandsportsupershow.com. You can get sale prices on tires there at the show. Beware of your wallet it will be much lighter when you leave.

I find most begginer quad riders get hurt trying to keep up with better riders rather than ride at a beginners pace. If your helping someone learn to ride you cant get bored and force a faster pace and expect a good out come.

If you were summoned to the thread because of this that's pretty silly. If the females at the office did in fact wreck on the quads, I don't think this qualifies him as sexist, I'd say he's pretty observant if he's aware of each specific incident. If they haven't all crashed, well the dudes got some integrity problems but sexism? No. For something to have "ist" at the end it implies the denial of opportunity due to race, gender, etc. Given the statement (which remains to be found valid) I'd say the ladies have had ample opportunities afforded them.

Show me a statement where someone says they shouldn't be allowed to ride because they are women, I'll show you a sexist.

My mother had a pretty serious crash in Coos Bay, much like @ForeRunner said, it was her first time on a quad and she didn't have adequate experience to be riding how and where she was. She shattered her wrist (now supported with a plate) and had a concussion.

Good on you to take the necessary steps to learn the equipment, it seems she is really enjoying herself. I hope you and the Mrs. can both enjoy the trails now! Seeing that shot of the Quad in the back of your long bed off road, is making me itch for my own. Only a couple more months hopefully.

Sorry, didn't mean to be sexist. It was just an observation from what I've noticed. Lots of guys have wrecked at work too. I'm sure lots of women are badass riders too.

That's why I followed her around in the truck after she practiced in the big open area. We got on some straight trails and just let her ride. She had trouble down shifting going up hills, but she never went too fast.

She got to fifth gear on some of the roads but was barely on the throttle. She topped out at 25mph on a few sections.... Haha

Thank you for the advice. I rode on the back with her when she wanted to feel when to shift and how to let off the throttle to shift. She never went to fast for her skill level. We did about 15 miles out there and she had a good time. She said she liked rolling the desert whoops... Wth?

Yes, the quad fits in the long bed. My yz250 has to sit across the bed to shut the gate. Here it is with the gate up. It's a short quad

I upped the pilot from 38 to 42 and took the main from 102 to 105. The previous owner installed the pipe and air filter and only went from 95 to 105 on the main. It was idling really hot so the pilot really helped it run better all around. It doesn't run nearly as hot now. I'm sure it's too rich but rich is better lean.

Went to Stoddard after I worked on it. My wife got better and even bush whacked for a mile or two. I was driving on the main trail and watching her off the trail beside me. I looked over once just as she slammed into a big creosote bush she couldn't miss.... BANG! She put her hands up like, why was this bush in the way?

I rode it twice and got it into some too big whoops for my speed. My first ouch was trying to down shift and my foot slipped forward. The front wheel took my shoe off and my leg went up under the front fender and made a little crack in the plastic. That leg hurts still... Then later I tried to show her how to do donuts and I almost flipped it. That other leg doesn't hurt anymore...

We had fun though. As it got dark and she got tired, I got on just outside of SlashX and drove for about an hour as the sun went down and it got completely dark. Ended back in the main area near the 15 and loaded up.

Here's a video of her riding on a side trail, and sometimes off it... IT IS SO GREEN IN STODDARD RIGHT NOW. It's crazy green!

I just drove back from the Mint 400, and its dead North of Barstow but South of it, I haven't seen it that green since I was a kid.
