Yup, now imagine this, if you drove 1GR truck for past 9 years, and you are getting behind a wheel of 2016 Tacoma. Its like going back to 4 cylinder with 33 inch tires and stock gears. :turtleride:

    Underpowered is understatement.

Since truck just got "redesigned" more likely is Toyota will keep current version until the end.. Tundra sales are crap, if Tacoma sales go down they will just close San Antonio factory and only produce it in Mexico.

I seriously never have these supposed weird transmission or engine issues. Especially now that everything is relatively broken in.

Agreed. I'd rather have a truck that feels slightly less torque-ish off the line but gets better mileage. I didn't buy the thing to be a Ferrari.

This is actually true. I can make mine get 24 mpg or 17, depending on how I drive. I have been choosing the 24 mpg lately...

I have motorcycles for when I want to go fast that will put any car to shame that is under $100K. I don't need my truck to be a sports car. For what I use my truck for, the Taco is more than adequate in the power department.

Good or bad, this what I like about imports. I'd be pissed if they came out with a better engine in 2 years. I know that what I have now will be little changed for the next 10 years.

How many miles do you have?
I have to say the transmission is much better about downshifting now that I have about 900 miles.

I'm seeing these posts where some guys are getting 16mpgs and some are getting 22. For no other reason than to see if I could get the 22 as well, I've been babying this thing driving to and from work. I've been getting about 18mpgs combined. Yesterday I was running late so I hit the ECT PWR button and umm..drove faster than usual. Truck felt good and was cracking off shifts around 3000 to 4000rpm. I fell out of my truck when I got to work cuz the trip meter said I got 24mpgs.

Haha I got me a 2015 loaner as well. I brought my 2016 in because of some transmission issues. I will also say that the 2015 rides and shift so much better. Also it way easier to park because the hood and too high as well.

IF I felt the same way I would definitely sell mine and by a Gen 2.......But I sold a 15 TRD Sport and bought the 16 TRD Sport and never looked back

The 16 is not a starting line truck. It "rolls out of stops easily" ON the freeway it had better passing power than the Gen 2 as far as I am concerned on my fourth Tacoma and the 16 is by far the best inside and out. Increased MPGs by 3+ which is not why I bought the truck, I don't drive enough to worry about $4 gas.

But I know the feeling of buyers remorse...but never on a $30,000 vehicle LOL

It seems like people who got the manual are happy, and people who got the auto are all :(

Nor have I but I drive gingerly. No hurry to "get off the line" passing and merging has never made me want my Gen 2 back. IT's a truck, not a Corvette.....Not advertised as a speed demon. When I do get on it, I love the extra power.

OP, do you feel the 2016 seats and interiror are more comfortable than the 2nd the gen? I know you said you like the climate control and the sunroof. What about the seats in the 2015? Better? The same? Worse?

18xx miles. It shifts normally and the power is smooth and there when I need it. I do drive like an old man though. lol

As far as the seats go, I think they are about the same. I only have 15 or so miles on the 2015, nothing stood out as being good or bad. So far I do like the seats in my 2016, my longest one way drive has been about 40 miles and again nothing stood out as good or bad. I noticed the door armrest on the 2016 is up higher which is more comfortable for me.

To me, a huge aspect of comfort is NVH (noise, vibration and harshness). The 2016 is quieter underway and seems to pickup less of the road texture. My exhaust has a drone when it's lugging between 1800-2300rpm - which is the single biggest thing I don't like and is remedied by using ECT PWR. I spend 1.5-2 hours in traffic everyday and a quiet, isolated interior is important to me and the 2016 meets the bar. There is nothing wrong per se with the 2015, the 2016 feels nicer inside. I just wish there were other interior colors than dark gray.

Knowing what I know now and had I been buying back in September, I would still pick my 2016.

I drive my 2015 like a rocket and get 18mpg but i know it was a right choice to get 2nd gen. Sadly i may have engineering problems and may be getting a 2016 sadly.

That's purely anecdotal though. If you check out the sales numbers you'll see what he's saying is true in comparison to other full size trucks. Only thing below Tundra sales looks to be the Nissan Titan.
