Where is the best places to tap into brake lights and power for the cargo light without breaking into a main harness?I just ordered a Leer and will be wiring it with sealed Duetch connectors. I have a fear of scotchlocks!!

best place to tap brake light is in the rear tail light. I did driver side. For dome light. I don't believe anything in the rear runs constant power. You can run an add a fuse from the fuse box and run in to the rear. Never used the dome light since I have bed lights, which I tapped directly to the under the hood fuse box.

Saddle - Just curious, why aren't you having your dealer install the Leer. A DYI?

I just did this yesterday with my canopy... just tapped into the drivers side brake light wire (for the the third brake light), and into the driving light wire (for the dome light)
Dome light will only switch on if my beams are on... but I plan on wiring better bed lights up front (always hot) anyway.

Tap in with quick splices. Super clean and you don't have to strip any factory wires

If the Toyota dealer sold them ,I would have them install it.I had to go to an aftermarket truck center to order it.The last time I bought a cap they wired it with those scotchlocks that cut thru the insulation. The place I bought this one from does a good wiring job. but I already told them I would wire it myself.

I just got my ARE two days ago.
I went around to the back and watched the install, I have to say when these two Mopes began arguing about how to do the wiring, I just said "I got it."
I live in Central Texas and grew up in the South, when the redneckery gets to a certain point, well, sometimes you better step in and stop it.

I'm considering tapping in to my Trailer lights instead of my Drivers Side tail light and running an add a fuse for the rear LED's and Dome light.

Do they all come with a place to plug in a trailer harness? I haven't been under mine yet.

    Back up Camera.
I'm looking at mine and it is filled with what I am guessing to be the back up Camera.

Mine has a backup camera. Does yours have a trailer plug in the bumper? The round tube in the bottom picture is where it would be mounted.I think!!!

Perhaps you are right I have both the camera and the trailer plug in my bumper.
I just finished the third light and the interior lighting tonight.

While I was doing the wiring and the after market keyed tailgate latch, I noticed the dealer hadn't installed the latch for the shell correctly. I fixed that at the same time I was doing the rest.
I'm a bit hesitant to leave my wiring to someone who has issues with a latch.
