Not sure what all the banter is....If you just spent $36k on a 2016 V6 TRD Long Bed....Just change the Syn Oil every 5k/6k miles...regardless of the driving..
This engine/truck will go forever..I cannot even image going 10k between changes.
I buy the Fram, Royal Purple or Mobil 1 filter and keep them under my back seat storage and use the best Syn they offer..

Oils have come a long way since the 1970´s guys. As well as bearings and their tolerances. 10,000 miles is nothing for oils and engines these days. Yes, it will look dirty by that time, but the viscosity is the key factor here. Have any of you ever changed the oil in a diesel and checked it 1,000 miles later, really dirty, but still good. One thing to keep in mind also, is the metal shavings will do one of two things, get caught in the filter, or settle in the bottom of the oil pan. Settling in the oil pan is no big deal due to the fact that the pump does not collect directly from the bottom, it is designed that way on purpose. So, calm down guys, make it last for 10,000 miles and sleep well.

There is literally no explaining this to people, so don't even waste your time. People are going to do what they want to do regardless of the logic behind it. Every other asshole on the internet thinks they know better than the engineers who design this stuff for a living. Not much to do about it but sit back and laugh at them wasting their $.

who in their right mind changes their oil once a year?

I dont care about the oil, THE FILTER can't last that long.
The dealer told me I can go 10 000km before oil changes with my car. I still do them every 8k

When I get my taco i'll be changing the oil every 2000km for the first 10 000km, after that every 8000km.

my oil goes in a nice golden color.

after turning over and running or probably 5 minutes its black already lol.
    MMMMMMM diesel

I know the oils are good for 10 000km, hell you could probably get 15 out of them.
but I do not trust the filters. and seriously for the price of an oil change i'd rather just change it. Its one of the best things for your engine.

If you do your own oil changes, you must have an oil filter wrench, I have searched high and low to find a wrench so I can do it myself but no luck. Can you tell me where you got it from, I hope its not the dealership, they want almost $40 for it here, and did you buy 1 or more filters off Amazon, usually you can get a better deal if you buy more, right..??

No, I don't do my own oil changes. I have a very good "indy" that has changed the oil/filters in my Tundras ('03, '05, '12 and my wife's '13 Lexus RX350). The last Tundra (4.6L V8) and the Lexus use the same OEM Toyota filters as the 3.5L V6 in my '16 Tacoma. I order them in packs of 5 from Amazon for $25. You can also get the filter wrench you need from Amazon for around $15. The "indy" charges $15 as I am supplying my own parts/oil. He removes the skid plates (the Tacoma one is a piece of cake compared to the Tundras) and thoroughly wipes down any residue left after the change before he puts the skid plate back on. If you buy the filters and wrench together you should get free shipping.

The RX350 and Tacoma use the same oil filter, however the Tundra uses a much taller filter, so they're not the same.

Make sure you're not putting those RX/Tacoma filters in the Tundra. If you do, it's basically the same as not putting in any oil filter at all, it will completely bypass the filter media.

You are EXACTLY right! :boink: I forgot, I used the TRD filters that were designed for the 4.6L in my Tundra. They were longer and more expensive. I ordered them in packs of 6 from Sparks Toyota. When I sold my Tundra, I gave the new owner the remaining filters I had and (brain fart) therefore forgot that I used a different one for the Tundra. At least now I can use the same filters in both vehicles although I'm considering going to the TRD filter that fits the Tacoma. Thanks for the correction:thumbsup:.

Glad to hear. Also good that you can get the same filters for both, convenience level up!

PTR43-00082 is the TRD oil filter that will fit the RX350 and Tacoma if you're curious.

Thanks Jeff for the part # for the TRD filters. I still have 5 of the OEM filters left (04152-YZZA1). I paid $25 (QTY.5) from Amazon and free shipping (Prime). I heard they are going to raise the free shipping (w/out Prime) from minimum orders of $35 to $49. I might put them up on eBay or sell 4 of them to another Forum member for $20 plus a couple of bucks for shipping. That would be less than $6.00 per filter which is less than the dealer charges especially in AL where the sales tax is 10%. Or I might just keep them and use them up between the Tacoma and Lexus (change oil ever 5K). The Lexus has 36K+ on the clock and I'll probably dump it at around 50K so I'll need 2 or 3 more for it.

Damn! Just checked TRD Sparks.com. The TRD filters are $39.00 for 4 plus $17.72 for shipping! Slightly less on Amazon ($12.84 each w/Prime). Might just stay with the OEM filters.

    Excellent post.

That's what the oil filter is for.

pretty much, if ppl are that worried they should seriously just send a sample of there oil off to blackstone laboratories for $20 and have it tested along with the additional TBN test ($10) that will tell u if the oil was still good along with a recommendation on how much farther u could have pushed the oil and and other thoughts they have like this:IMG_6191.jpg

and yes i barely put any miles on this oil bit it was all very hard track miles and i still had plenty more miles to go if i just waited

1,000 mile oil change...it's you money, it would be a waste, but if it makes you feel good do it.
