How many bought a TRD OR and don't really off road much, do you regret the purchase

I don't regret it at all. With winter coming who knows I may get a chance even if I dont want to, poeple drive like massholes up here.

 

I have a 2 wheel SR5, I don't 4 wheel and COULD never justify driving a 25 to 30 thousand dollar truck offroad in an abusive manner. But thats me, if thats your thing...........Jump That Mother........

 

I regretted not buying a 4x4 trd off road on my last Tacoma PreRunner SR5 4 door....5 years later I finally remedied that.

 

Never and never will. But this is just me.

 

Base version 4x4. Dont need TRD. I changed up all the suspension components anyways and the TRD seats suck (the base ones suck too), changed the audio system so who needs JBL, don't need fogs as Ive installed Hella 500s. A locker would be nice, but Im not going to pay a much more for crap I can't option off.

Agreed. I'm happy with my purchase. If I wanna offroad, i'll buy a locker and maybe move up to some blistens.


Edit: I still wish I'd bought a trd offroad 4x4 to begin with.

 

I don't offroad that much. That said, my neighborhood doesn't get plowing service, and Montana in general doesn't use salt (most salt/deicers don't work below 0°F.)


It's always an adventure just getting out of my cul-de-sac, sad but true. In, 2wd my truck does not move from a dead stop from the "snow trap" situation we have going on in our circle. It helps that I have a garage, and it's not too bad if I had some momentum but if I come to a dead stop, it's just ice underneath 6 inches of packed down snow. It's not getting out of there.


I always have to put to 4hi just to get through that mess. Granted, if I only had a PreRunner, I'd probably put some weight in the bed to get some extra traction. It's just so much more convenient to just put it in 4hi.


Ok... so that answers about 4x4. Regarding TRD Off Road package, I just think it's an extra sense of security. I take my truck up to the mountains for snowboarding and sometimes get snowed on pretty heavily. I already had to lock the differentials a couple of times to get myself out of being stuck. This is after trying everything else of course. Lockers have not failed me yet from getting unstuck... knock on wood.


TRD package hasa lot of neat features as well (back up camera, cruise ctl, fog lights, etc.) If you are looking to customize and put after market stuff on, I'd just get a base 4x4 and spend the TRD money on aftermarket skid plates, fog lights, etc.

If you live anywhere near I do, good luck finding a double cab 4x4 that's not TRD though.

I've maybe used my locker twice in the year and a half I've owned my truck...but man its nice to have when needed.

I don't regret buying an offroad truck for one second!

 

My only regret is getting a prerunner instead of 4x4. e-locker ftw.

Also, the TRD seats are awesome... though the same as the sport.

 

The SR5 package has all the options listed above except fogs

The 09 and up SR5's have an auto LSD which more or less works the same as the lockers in the TRD OR. So if your gonna modify suspension your really getting the TRD for the stickers, a non functional hood scoop, 6 disc changer and a locker that does really the same thing as an LSD.

Not worth the $3500 they charge for it. IMO

 

Had a base V6 2008, now have a TRD O/R 2009. The power windows/locks are the only thing I use in the TRD package that my base didn't have. Absolutely no regrets in getting the TRD.

 

I'm sure a lot of people who actually used both the Auto LSD and lockers will agree with me that it's a night and day difference.

Auto LSD still utilizes breaks to get torgue on the wheel that's not slipping. You are not going to get as much power or precision as a locked differential. That said, it depends on how "stuck" you are I suppose.
