For the OP, we don't know its low in the first place but he won't know until he gets it checked. Simple process to schedule with the dealer and take the time to observe.

My transmission still hunts between 5th and 6th, especially on inclines to maintain fuel economy, its a characteristic of the truck to save gas. Hard shifts especially at low speeds, noise or very erratic shifting would definitely point to a problem with either the transmission or fluid levels.

overlooked the low tranny fluid issue. The transmission learns your driving style and selects the appropriate "map", from everything I have read here and there. Actually low tranny fluid usually results in a gear engagement delay, or hard engagement.

oh jsinnard already stated this, I'm sounding like a parrot now.

I'm going to be really supportive and constructive. I'll buy your Taco for $1,000, problems solved.

Aside from the shifting, these are all normal. Use your trip a and b meters to find your mileage. Taco resets each trip to show your mpg and time each drive.

Don't use your nav screen while in motion and it won't be an issue. I don't agree with this feature, but I kind of get it. It doesn't even allow a passenger to use it in motion, which is an oversight.

As for your shifting. I really don't think you have an issue here. I don't believe that your fluid is necessarily low. I also don't belive it will be night / day difference after you "teach" the truck through mileage. I think this is just the truck. It's not a Nissan, it's a tacoma being run by a new engine

Not at all, just re-enforcing the correct course of action to take.

Hey, my son and I were cussing at the Navi thing, we figured it out, sometimes to lazy to read the book :) You need to be stopped, doesn't have to be in P. The shifting does get better, a little, I'm a 6K and it still does it, but I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me at all, put it in ECT when you know you want to take someone at the light :) I was getting about 16-17 MPG, then once I hit around 4K it started going up, now I'm getting 20+, and I'm aggressive driver.
Hang in, all those little things will go away, truck is a beast and you will love it soon enough, good luck!!!
