V6 Cold Start problems?

Has anyone experienced cold start problems with their 2nd generation Tacoma?

Mt 2010 V6 when setting out in temperatures around 40 F hesitates starting before it finally starts. It's not a battery issues as it is cranking it just appears to not be getting fuel but then finally starts. It's worried me a couple of times but so far it's never failed to start. After I drive it several miles and the engine warms up it starts just fine.

Funny thing my 2005 V6 Tacoma did the same thing the last winter I had it but I never took it in for service since I traded before this winter.

Maybe it's my fuel? I typically use 87 octane.

 

I use 87 but I don't think thats a problem. I've had this happen once while I was getting ready to leave school. It was setting outside all day in 40-50* temps. Now that mention it, this could be the reason why.

 

My 07 has been doing this lately kinda crazy... just did an oil change maybe that is the issue guess I will see

 

As in the starter takes a few seconds to crank the engine over? Cause this is normal cold weather starting.
Come up here and try your truck. It was -22ºF (-45ºF with windchill).

My poor truck. Still started first try. Don't worry about it.

 

Well that is why I worried a bit about it as it really has not gotten cold yet. Now if it got as cold here as you are talking I would be worried.

 

Stick the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "run" position and wait a couple of seconds and then turn it farther to start and see if that helps. It has nothing to do with the octane rating of the fuel.

 

Both my 08 and 09 did that a few times when new and it stopped once I got some miles on them

It's takes a second or two. I believe it's something to do with the fuel pump.

 

I haven't had any trouble in cold weather, but twice since I got my 09 in July she took a few seconds to start.

On my 2005 Tacoma I suspected the fuel pump but as it does it on the new Tacoma as well I thought I must be the common factor. ha. But it happens most when I am leaving work after it being parked 8 hours or so and I am probably trying to make a quick departure. I'll try turning the key on to run for a second or two tomorrow and then starting as it should be kind of cold as well then.

I had a Dodge once, that's how they normally start!!

 

was -30C or -22F this morning in Alberta.

I was supposed to be getting a ride to work so didn't plug my truck in but at the last minute had to drive my truck to work.

Started first time no problem. Only problems I had were:

central locking didn't work
clutch was sticking to the floor and the shift leaver was really heavy

Will be plugging it in tonight just in case

 

do you have a block heater?

 

Well if my truck is plugged in Ive started it in -50 F while living in Alaska.

 

i just changed my oil. it rained as was pretty cold today where i was. my truck kind of stuttered when it tried to start. for the fist time

 

A contributing factor, though probably not the primary reason, could be winter blend gasoline.

A Dodge starting at all is a big victory.

I don't have the block heater in mine. I'll be getting one and installing it myself. There was a great thread on this with wonderful installation pics somewhere
