Been scuba diving at the Dawsonville WMA. In one of the old Lockheed building ruins many years ago.

The canoe part I think he is talking about is where the Etowah river got diverted thru a tunnel.
The diving I did was in the lower level of one of the old Lockheed buildings from the late 50's. I would not call it a dive site, just one completely filled lower level and one half filled level above that. When the site was cleared they pumped water up from the river to fill the lower levels of what was left. Not much to see in the underwater room. Old empty equipment racks, a few desks and chairs.

Watch this. It's not the mining tunnels that the Etowah feeds into. Video is a little corny, but it is informative.

This is exactly what I wanted, saw that building and was curious-- would not have guessed it would have been this interesting.

I'll be up that way next weekend (maybe). I'm either taking the wife to Brasstown Bald or Tallulah Falls to camp. Anyone recommend one over the other?

EDIT: gonna post this in the other GA thread, too...mo traffic there

Cruised through Tray Mountain yesterday and was disapointed in the amount of 4x4 vandalism and campsite trash. Sorry no pics. The government will close that trail because of crap like that. Lets be accountable and keep others accountable also! If you see violtors report them! Pack it in pack it out! Tread lightly! Happy wheelin!

I'be heard there's some old government buildings on one tract of Dawson Forrest where they used to do radiation testing and had a reactor there. Those are flooded, sealed, and have fences around them. You might get into trouble if you try to dive there now though.

If your looking for somewhere to scuba dive there's a flooded town under lake alatoona called etowah. Not really sure where at in alatoona, there's also a old ironfurnace that's underwater. I think it might be in the north end of the lake near fields landing.
