Starting to regret I ever purchased this truck....

Same... I knew withing one drive that it just didn't want me messing around while moving. Having said that, easily 80% + of what I've learned about my truck has come from here.

There are a few choice asses that deserve to be ignored for sure on TW - thanks to posters who have reminded me about the feature!

You are correct, except from the MANY threads about this issue it is not exactly easy to schedule with many dealers. But maybe now, because of all the "bitchers and whiners" that process is hopefully getting easier.

Not sure how i feel about not being able to use the keyboard on the navigation while moving. Cant argue that it is safer but i hate having my hands tied when using technology. Ill probably get a Garmin and never bother with the built in navigation. Out on new trails i use other products.

Just a thought...unless you are a Toyota shareholder folks that jump all over an OP with legitimate complaints are doing a disservice to the Toyota owner community. Toyota's feet NEEDS to be held to the fire and I am sure they monitor these forums. For sure there are dealers and the good ones must be reporting to Toyota. There may be a few posters that are barking at ghosts but give it some time to figure it out.

Ill be picking up a Tacoma in early January (Toyota makes the only config that fits my needs) and thanks to early Gen 3 beta testers ill know what to look for and ask for when i make my deal. Hopefully all the current issues are fixed and ill be able to pick up a 2017 :)

Good Luck To OP. Try the suggestions, especially for the trans. By many accounts these trucks really shine with time.

Just an FYI, the voice commands work with the Nav.

Understand. But thats the point. Apparently Nav only works with voice while moving. I have tried the voice commands with other systems. I dont have an accent and my success rate was below 50 percent. I also found the systems very inflexible for anything but basic navigation. A few times i found myself taking my eyes off the road and speaking to the system LOL which sort of defeats the purpose. :)

Wouldn't you take your eyes off the road if you could type while moving more often? Just saying after I found out how well the voice works I am not as bitter about not be able to type while driving.

Absolutely. But that is my choice. Point is they are forcing you to use the voice commands for safety reasons and i end up taking my eyes off the road out of frustration if i use the voice system. Also... Lets say im searching for thai restaurants in a new area. 5 come up. Still have to read the results(or are the results read back to you?)

My girlfriend handles most of those duties when we are on the road so she is usually pushing the buttons (she DOES have an accent). Ill occasionally reroute on the fly or pull over if its complicated. Just dont like being forced to use technology in a purposely limited way. So, for me it will be a garmin system.

Makes sense. My wife's Honda has Carplay with apple, now that voice system can send people texts and other things.

.... kinda like saying drinking and driving is your choice. Sure it is.... but its not fair to the other people on the road.

Distracted driving laws. Not exactly like a seatbelt law where 'the Man' is trying to take away your rights to die young. It's for the safety of the people in the oncoming lanes, the crosswalks, and stopped at red lights ahead of you. I'm glad less and less people, who I don't even know, and probably don't have a lick of common sense, are watching the road instead of trying to use a finicky keyboard down and over in the dash.

I almost wish cell phones were designed to not accept text input while moving above a certain speed. I've seen way too many people hurt in unnecessary collisions. And it's usually not the person who was fucking texting.

    Sorry.... a rant.

I disagree - this forum can be pretty bad compared to others I subscribe to. I've only been a member since late 2015 (when I acquired my 3rd Gen Taco) and I've already witnessed numerous threads containing words and commentary that go beyond garden-variety flame wars. It's almost like these offenders don't think they ever have to use a civility filter...

I disagree...I have been a member since 2009 and have had nothing but positive things to say about this site. A lot of people take pride in what they post and the information they share, you will get the occasional asshole (it is the interwebz after all) but for the most part you get back what you put in. Positive or Negative. Treat people like you would want to be treated. Bottom Line.

You hit the nail on the head - treat people like you want to be treated - but while the OP had opinions that apparently were hard for certain members to take - how those certain members treated him was unwarranted, and hardly were in the spirit you suggest. My suggestion to them is for them to simply "move along".

The intolerance on this forum can be overwhelming at times - and I've participated in forums and BBS's for going on over two decades and I can attest that the degree of intolerance and abusive responses to misguided posts is astonishing here, at times, in my opinion. It's almost like some guys anoint themselves as moderator and equate moderation as shit-flinging abuse.

The reason I continue to be a member are the great ideas, and generous offers for assistance that are also (thankfully) a big part of TW.

As for the asshats who may come out of the woodwork to abuse and add nothing to the thread, well, they earn an ignore.

And, for the record, my suggestion for the OP would be to discuss the issues he was experiencing with his dealer, especially those that other posters indicated may have a fix pending. That, and RTFM. ;-)
