I have a 2.4L 1998 manual tacoma i bought the lift for it... i have rims... i think a 32" tire might be a little too much with out regearing but im not sure, i would love to go to the 32" but the 31's seem a little safer. It is my dd so i still have to have enough power to be on the freeway and get around town.(the 32's will fit) I want to put on the Cooper Tires DISCOVERER STT 31X10.50R15LT... any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

why do you think the 31's are safer than the 32's? for the inch difference and what 5 pound difference per tire, id say just go with the 32's

Im just goin off what i hear the 32's are an inch taller and an inch wider. I dont have the money to regear right now, and people have told me that 32's are to much with the stock gears.

so are you between 245 and 265? 245 is 9.6" wide and 265 is 10.4 so just about 3/4" difference. the diameter difference is under 1 1/4" therefore your only getting the benefit of .625" inch of ground clearance. it doesnt seem like you would need to regear after looking at the tire calculator..but i dont own a 1st gen so thats just an observation

What's your current gearing? Current tire size?
You have a 2.4L mini (5 lugger) right?

That's a different ballgame than the 6lugger thing. What transmission do you have?

If it's a DD and you don't offroad a lot, the 31s would do fine.I'm assuming now , but arent stock on yours 235/75/r15? Not sure if you are ok with some power loss.
I'm assuming its not lifted, therefore I hope someone here can tell you if 32's will fit and still articulate and turn w/o rubbing, also consider chain clearance if it applies to you and your region.

Those Cooper STTs are some SWEET tires. The bigger the tires, the worse the mpg and lose of torque. If you like the 31s go with those.

IMO, you should go with the 31" tires. Great tire selection!

Right now i have the bfg 235/75/15 AT's, im not sure exactly what gears i have whatever comes stock... i have a 3" body lift along with the fabtech 3.5" performance lift... the tires should fit fine... its just the base 2.4L 5 lug, manual trans... the only thing else i have done is a new exhaust.

Honestly if you go up to 31s or 32s your power loss will be about the same. I have the STTs on my 08 with a 4cyl and it runs and pulls my 16ft. xpress just fine. So IMO go with the 32s it'll look so much better and anyway most trucks out there come stock with 31s.
With all that lift why not go with the tried and true 33x12.50's that would look awesome with your lift

Really? Well, i guess if its not that big of a difference i should just go with the 32's... as far as the 33's go i dont know that seems like alot for how small my engine is i dont want to lose all my power haha...but if anyone else has run these tires on a 4cyl let me know how it is please... Im getting the tires some time next week so any input would be appreciated

i think ill eventually go with some 4.56 gears. Do i need to swap carriers or can the stock handle that ratio? i have the 7.5" high pinion i believe in the rear and the ISF 7.5 in the front. thanks!

I would rock the 31's. They are probably cheaper and plus, you would only be gaining .5 inches of ground clearance on a 32. Hardly seems worth it. A 31x10.50 will take you more places than a 32 or even a 33 for that matter if you know what your doing.

I have a 2.7 4WD 5-speed with 32s, and if I had to do it over again, I'd have gone with 31s. The truck is a dog with 32s, I'm constantly cracking the whip just to keep up with traffic. I had a 3.4 V6 that handled the 32s, but they're just too much for the 4-cyl.

Hey man, imo i'd go with de 32's to change a. Realize though that you may go through an extra clutch.
