So I ran into an old friend of mine at the bar last night who is a professional photographer/editor. I sent him a few pics of my truck and this is what I got back:

If any of you guys have some photos of your trucks he can touch them up for you for a small fee. Let me know!

Finally got some bumpers. CBI front and rear I picked up. Smitty Built winch is installed just waiting on synthetic line and a fair lead.

I've got a trailer w/ a Toyota rear end as an axle. To eliminate some weight can't I just pull the diff and weld put a cover on it? Any other ideas? I'm just thinking rather than buy a new axle and springs, since this is already in place.

No, you would need to support the ends of the axle shafts where they would go into the diff. The wheel bearings are single roller ball and cant provide that kind of support.

I already tossed the bed wor
I was pretty sure that was the case. My friend cut the ends off an axle housing and welded them to a tube to build his own axle. Wonder how the center of those axles are supported. I'll have to inquire, maybe just buy one instead of fussing with it. Thanks for the info.

This is what I have for now. I ditched the truck bed and built the frame as a fall project. Going to change it up a bit, add some fenders and that's about it. I'm not wheeling it hard. Just using as base camp when wife and dog come with. Not sure it's worth changing out the axles. Waiting to find two wheel spacers to spears the stance a little.

Might be a full floater axle. Wouldnt have a problem removing the diff or axles then.

I have mentioned this a few times in this thread but I will keep updating here periodically as well.

I will be pulling my engine on the weekend of the 12th. In hopes to get some experienced/knowledgeable members to come help, I am making this event pretty much a meet/greet. I will be buying beer and my gf will be making food for those that help (Maybe tacos!?). I can house a few people as long as they don't mind sleeping on the floor or a couch. If people decide to hang out for the night, I will likely host a poker game and/or go downtown for some drinks.

The location is in Laramie, WY. If you are interested shoot me a PM.

what "captures" the axle shafts? could you cut the axle shafts down to just past the bearings so that there's no shaft to support?

No, the wheel bearings don't have the support for operation without the shaft in the side gears of the differential. Single row, ball bearing. You would need a tapered roller bearing for the support your talking aboot

I can head up w/ @Ag63i2 for the day if he plans on returning to Denver that evening. I'm not experienced w/ engine removal, but it'd be fun to help a member out and meet some others.

Even if you aren't experienced its always good to have more hands/heads. You might have the solution to a hard to reach bolt. Plus, I am not experienced either. I plan on helping as much as I can but Ill probably end up on the sideline just making sure things stay organized and taking pictures.
