To keep my UCA's or not?!

Purchased a 2014 off road dcsb with a OME 3 inch lift and Tuff Country uniball UCA's. Sold the wheels and tires off of it and replaced them with the stock 17's wrapped in 265/70/17's. This weekend I'm going to take the lift off and install the original stock suspension with the exception of the front shocks. I bought some Billy's and set them at 1.75. Now that you know the background here's my problem. The alignment on the truck is off. The off road wheels and tires that were on there did not have the correct offset so they didn't clear the after market UCA's causing the wheels to be slanted inward to clear the UCA. Not really noticeable but I want it corrected. Here's my 2 options....

1. Take off the Uniball UCA's when I take off the lift and install stock UCA's with the Billy's set at 1.75. Have the truck aligned and corrected. This will fix the problem.

2. Leave the Uniball UCA's installed and install the Billy's set at 1.75. Buy some 1 inch wheel spacers that will move the wheels out farther which will allow them to clear the UCA. Have the truck aligned and corrected and this will fix the problem.

I'm kind of skeptical about the wheel spacers because I've heard horror stories about them. Help a brother make a decision.

 

Your tires won't clear the stock UCAs any better than the aftermarket ones - the rubbing will probably be worse. You need spacers or new wheels.

 

How is that? There are tons of people on this site that run Billy's set at 1.75 with stock UCA's and they don't experience any rubbing. Or at least that's what I've read.

 

I just reread your first post. I think you are right. 265s shouldn't rub stock UCAs on stock wheels. I ran that size for a couple years.

But I would also be a pro advocate of wheel spacers. I have them and love them. Just use loctite and antiseize and you won't have any issues...

 

loctite and anti seize? That's like putting sand in your KY...

 

Whole lift including UCA's only has 7,000 something miles on it.

 

I'll stay tuned for what you decide then. I need some UCAs for my current set up

I already have all of the stock suspension including stock UCA's. I just wasn't sure if I should keep the Tuff Country UCA's and go with wheel spacers or just install the stock UCA's to correct the alignment issue.

 

gotcha. Why did u buy a truck with all the mods on it?

 

Spacers may cause you to need to trim. Any spacer less than 1.25" would require that you cut the remaining length off of your wheel studs (or replace them). I'd say do the switch back to stock and save the headaches.

 

Good to know. This site I was looking at today that sold Bora's said that you wouldn't have to trim the stock studs if you purchased their 1 inch wheel spacers.

Not so....I'm using 1" Bora spacers and have plenty of clearance. I know of 3 trucks with 3/4" that didn't need to have the studs ground down.
