Spring hanger width should be 31.5" center to center.

How so? You will still need to weld up the new frame, fish plates to the old frame, shock hoops, front spring hanger and rears. Motor mounts, radiator mounts etc.

Stock frame would just be plates hangers and hoops.

I wont have to weld 10 feet of reinforcement plates to it. Motor mount is just 2x3 with a mounting plate on one end.

A ton of welding is better than a ton of grinding any day.

Indeed. I would much rather spend my time welding on shock mounts and spring brackets, then welding frame plates to reinforce the entire length of the corroded factory sheet metal frame, and even more braces so i don't tear my steering box off. Then having to notch and plate my front frame horns so my steering will fit.

I went back and forth a few times on weather to chop the front frame or torch, grind and reinforce, and above is what i based my choice on.

How did you go about supporting the engine while you cut everything out?

Jackstand under the trans. I was going to weld a piece of 2x2 across the frame, but my cat was in the way, and i would have still had to build some janky ass spacer to reach the trans.
