Agreed, All-Pro SAS just reminds me of the whole Rebel Off-road SAS fiasco.

 

You could be right. I was just saying back in the day, I swapped my 8.8" Furd rear end in my F150 for a D60 and it only cost me $100 for the D60 + about another $80 or so for a pair of 8 lug wheels. Of course, I didn't have to regear it or anything and I didn't put a locker in it. Almost 3 grand still seems like an excessive amount of jack to drop on a D60 rear, but I guess I could maybe see it if you were talking about slapping an air locker in it. If it was a front axle, I definitely could see $3k being cheap.

 

Honest question and don't everyone go all crazy, for wheeling in FL and what we usually do, is straight axle a need or a want? Pretty much stuck on building the stock axles up or take the same money to put into one tons for this long term project

 

I guess that's a "your mileage may vary" question. I'm a fan of solid axles. I don't feel like the IFS stuff is strong enough to hold up even for FL wheeling...at least not in my experience. I snap CVs way too easily, though in all honesty, that could be because I've been running aftermarket CVs.

Also, the only way to get more than 3 inches of lift is to either go with a DB or a long travel suspension in the front, and if you're going to shell out that kind of cash, you're mostly there for an SAS anyway. Might as well go all in.

 

I view it as a want, especially for rock less Florida.

 

Lack of rocks doesn't necessarily mean you don't need durable axles. I've snapped 3 CV axles at Citrus and only 1 at Hardrock.

 

Yeah true, it'd be a long term project years down the road probably

I've just not seen our (second gen) guys snapping CVs or anything so I'm just not sure

 

Well, if it helps, I want to SAS, but realistically, I'm never going to have the cash for it. However, on the off chance that the opportunity presents itself, I don't plan on spending any more money than I have to on my front suspension beyond keeping it maintained and working. No fancy UCAs or any junk like that.

 

Yeah that's what my plan most likely is, I want to get the boats up and running, get a couple 4 wheelers for the family and some other things (of course the wedding to pay for too) so I figure mine can handle trails and camping and all that for right now and down the road if I have the cash just maybe would do SAS

I've got backpacking covered from all my Appalachian Trail and Florida Trail trips, we got kayaks, trucks somewhat capable, missing a couple other toys still

133,xxx miles and I don't know if it's ever been changed.
