well that's just crappy...honestly, what is the best MPG of strictly highway use that you guys are getting from the DCSB 4x4 6MT?

 

At what speed and tire size and weight? Too many variables to tell you what you will get.

With 265 75 r16 duratravs driving 75 mph, I have seen 19.8 once. Click on my Fuelly link in my signature. You can see every tank I have done.

 

I have, i had a 97 sunfire that was a manual. I lost 5th gear and had limp it home in 4th. I eventually lost 4th and got home in 3rd. I pulled the trans apart and 5th gear teeth were completely stripped off and 4th was nearly gone.

Blew a clutch in my ranger, but that's another story.

 

Kingair, im not sure about the borla exhaust but I have the flow master dual exhaust installed and love it. wouldn't be too keen on being the first one to test an exhaust either but thats just me

 

I'm referring to a completely stock truck. I have no intentions of ever doing anything aftermarket, besides a camper shell. Don't see why you couldn't get 23 MPG at a minimum.

 

In reference to the Borla exhaust, maybe check to see if there's any difference in Toyota part numbers for the factory exhaust auto/MT?

Hardly conclusive, but might be helpful to know.

 

Completely stock, and babying the heck out of my truck, I am getting just 19MPG highway only, and 15mpg in the city. 24 MPG is seriously not going to happen. I've tried every which way to drive my truck and it doesn't seem to make much difference.

Just drove to Yosemite and Seqouia Park this weekend. Great drive up the mountains. Driving up the Seqouia mountain is about an hour drive and I smelled burnt breaks right off the bat from cars descending the mountain. Manual ftw.

 

It's possible to get 25 mpg, but not easy. This trip consisted of 22 miles of flat road at 55mph with only a few stop signs. DCSB TRD OR 4x4 manual w/ ko2 265/75 16s.

 

So basically down hill in both directions, idling the truck, while flinstoning the shit out of it with feet on the ground with a tailwind and a pigeon sitting on the tailgate farting to assist with momentum.

That makes sense. You'd be at 1800 RPMs in 6th gear, doing 55mph with 265s. That's a little more comforting. I'll tell you one thing, the 2.7L 5MT 4x4 MPG is under rated. Seems to be the superior motor in the Tacoma, plus they updated the transmission (R156F), with 5th gear being 0.788 vs 0.801 in the R155F, along with 1st and 2nd. I've seen 25 MPG all day long @ 6mph in my current 2.7L 2WD PreRunner.

 

As long as Toyota keeps offering manual transmissions in Tacomas, I'll keep buying them. That's how they got me hooked. My 2000 4Runner(last year for the 5speed) has 280k on it and is smooth and quiet in every gear. I'm liking the 6mt in my 16 Tacoma, it seems a little smoother than my 14.

 

Always loved the 2.7L and 5spd, a lot more fuel efficient than people give them credit for when you factor in aggressive driving, winter weather and larger tires.

I've gotten 22.4 at best with stock tires and ethanol free gas. Mine is an Access Cab 4X4 Sport, which should weigh roughly the same as a DCSB. When summer blend fuel hits the pumps, I'm hoping I can break 23 on a highway trip. My 2015 Canyon got 24 consistently on the highway, but I'll give up 2 MPG for reliability and a manual trans.

 

Same here. Originally owned a 95 taco 5sp and it was bulletproof. The truck was 15 years old at the time and ran solid. So I bought a new one.


I plan on handling this truck to my baby niece when she can drive in 13 years. Her dad only drives stick, she will too.

 

I was looking for a car for my son. I stopped at dealer that had one I was interested in. Auto was the only option per his mom. When I got there the sales lady tried to show me some they had. When I asked about the one in the ad she said it was in the back but she could not drive it. I said what do you mean you cannot drive it? She said it was a manual. I said thanks for putting that on the ad and left. My first 3 vehicles were manuals and I wanted my kids to drive one but wife put her foot down. I said fine you can go stomp in a different house.

 

@stump jumper thats too funny Manual was what I told my parents I wanted to learn on, and take my drivers test in. Thats been 14 years since, and have only owned manuals. Such a joy to drive as well. I would still teach your kids to drive one. Never know when it will become useful.

 

Ironically, my '10 is the first vehicle without a clutch that I've owned in years. The last slushbox I had was a Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2004-ish.

But, my '84 and '69 are both 3-pedal jobs.

 

I have a '16 MT DCSB OR (no modifications) and get 22-23mpg at best doing 55-60mph on the flat straight roads of KS with no wind and using ethanol free gas, bump that speed to 75mph and I'm lucky to get 15mpg. I get 14-18 when in the city(depending on what part and time of day)
