Hello All, welcome to my build page!

First, a bit about me: I live in Southern California, where EVERYTHING is super expensive. On top of that, I'm doing this build on a single income with a wife and two little ones. Thats the path we've chosen and everything else will have to fit in that.

Owning a Tacoma has been a dream of mine for about 15 years. I remember my sister driving me around when I was in Jr HS, and seeing that 1st Gen... in love ever since then!

Finally, in November of 2015, I bought mine. Landed on the DCSB Sport 4x4 in MGM (Don't remember the exact price, but roughly $38k out the door).

This entire build is inspired by the movie Fury. While I don't plan on painting my truck OD Green, I certainly keep the tank in mind when I decide on colors and mods. I do want to get the throwback plates California allows now. I'll have to incorporate Fury into them somehow!

I was initially unsure of what I wanted to do with the truck. When I bought it, I just knew it had to look slick. I didn't know if I was gonna bro it out and have the back lower than the front or maybe even keep it stock. After a few offload meets and some serious research into the many tacoma adventures on the internet, I have fallen in love with the overland style of things. The idea of having a truly capable truck that looks that badass is appealing. We love camping and exploring so, naturally, this just fell into place. One day, an RTT and shell will be in store. This is years away, I'm sure, but thats the route we're gonna go with this deal. A ton of inspiration from @DefconBrix and many many others. You ALL are spending money that I won't make for a few years!

They day I bought it, I had the windows tinted (limo) and threw on an old Oakley emblem that I'd been saving for months. Just like the look, and the brand has been good to my profession for years. (Windows - $200 lifetime guarantee)(Oakley Emblem - $12)

Next up, I threw up some gifts and a few accomplishments onto my headliner:

    IMG_2021.jpg

Also bought some blacked out flags for each door, just as a throwback to my time spent in the Army. I've always liked this mod on the Tacos (Decals - $20):

    IMG_2017.jpg

I also blacked out all my badges and decided to black out the bottom accent of the tailgate. This took some time to learn and prepare (twice) before I got it looking legit (Spray - $20):

    IMG_2022.jpg

You can see more of the accent blackout here, plus the claymore hitch my wife bought me (Hitch - $50 gift):

    IMG_2020.jpg

Since I'll likely never put a front plate on this thing, I went ahead and bought this subdued flag plate from Amazon. It was cheap, like 15 bucks or so... you can see theres a theme here. I also bought some amber LED Ditch Lights from Cali Raised with the wire harness and switch. Thanks to @GHOST SHIP these got wired up right the first time. The dude is a class act and welcomed me to come to his place and he pretty much did the whole mod for me while I held the damn flashlight (Lights w/ switch and wiring - $120 group buy):

    Dusk over Pasadena, here
    IMG_1987.jpg

Again, thanks to @GHOST SHIP these are slick!
    IMG_2018.jpg

These pods are clean. I love the actual amber LED, rather than the cover. They're damn bright too:
    IMG_2019.jpg

    This angle just looks mean:
    IMG_2023.jpg

The last portion of my initial newbie mods was the sliders. I ordered these BAMF weld on, bare metal, no kickout and no angle. Got them from @JLee who really hooked the TW community up on his Black Friday Sale. He promised a 12 week lead time and I'm pretty sure these came in a bit early; despite there being some fitting concerns with the new 3rd gen setup, J really came through and sent off a solid product. (Sliders w/ shipping and welding - Roughly $400 group buy)

After the bare metal came in (UPS really tossed them around and dinged them up), I threw them up on the stands and hit em with some goof off and 800 grit sand paper:
    IMG_2028.jpg

Then I used a few coats of self etching primer to start it off (guess I don't have any pics in the primer phase):
    IMG_2029.jpg

After that, I used a textured "Truck Bed" spray can for the finish coats. I was liberal with the application, here, and I understand I will likely be touching these up for the rest of my days... Thats just the cost of doing business when it comes to trucks. I'm so glad to just have these things... threw about 4 coats on each slider when all was said and done:
    IMG_2004.jpgIMG_2004.jpg
    IMG_2031.jpg
    IMG_2030.jpg
(You can see a couple spots that needed touching up the day after... too easy!)

Loaded these beasts up for welding:

    IMG_2010.jpg

@glorifiedwelder (Jason) did the job for me. End Result:

    IMG_2013.jpg

    IMG_2012.jpg

    IMG_2016.jpg

    IMG_2025.jpg

This is how she sits 02/16:

    IMG_2008.jpg

    IMG_2011.jpgIMG_2014.jpgIMG_2015.jpgIMG_2027.jpg

Next up is a grill I think. I'll get wheels and tires as time comes. Ill use these tires until I need new ones, then beef it up. The wheels will just be whenever I find a deal I can't pass up. Lift? one day!

Much much more to follow. Thank you for coming over to my build (so far) and please leave any opinions / pointers you have!

Good to have you! for the next couple months, it'll likely be small stuff and a lot of DIY. Probably start documenting these meets since I just bought my girl a $1,000 camera haa.

Camera is a great mod especially since you plan on doing some camping/overlanding. I love having stories to tell about our travels, but pictures make it that much better. We just got our Nikon and I used it this weekend at Anza Borrego. No more cell pics for me... I still need to figure out some of the cooler settings. I'm used to my old 35mm Pentax...

Like I said, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, really. I knew I wanted that SKEWP though! Looking back, the offroad may have been a wiser decision, but I'm not so sure. I just know the money was at my top range for the sport so the extra cash would've really been really hard to come up with.

image.jpg image.jpg Took off the air damn. Took about 5 minutes and the ever illusive 10mm. Doing this for the Hungry Valley meet coming up in a few days. I just threw the bolts right back where they came from and now I can throw it back up in a week or so if i want the MPGs. Hard to tell in these pics, but it really gives the truck some stance.

Also did the "Bird Dog" mod, apparently.

Ha awesome. BAMF grill was just too pricey for me. I will wait for the pro grill so others can make something similar. I really want "FURY" lettering on the grill so I just need to think before I buy

Congrats, truck is looking nice OP!

Interesting, the TRD Sport has the same wheels and tires as the LTD in Canada. I knew the wheels were, but it also looks like those are Toyo A30's.

Same, 17" wheels. To be honest, prefer the wheels on the U.S. LTD

Your sliders look way better than the OEM bar on my truck. Really nice work there!

Yeah brother. Dealer quoted me $800 for some steps... Like chrome ones... Obviously not my style. I laughed all the way to the BAMF sale
