What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I was thinking I need a reference size of some sort. Hard to tell they are 15.5" wide. Massive meats.

 

New light bar mounts.....lol

 

So when I turn sharp, like into a parking spot, something start to scream. I'm guessing something with power steering, maybe low fluid?

 

I have these for when I get around to doing my front end swap. They fit perfectly in the triangle holes in the grille, would probably be a good fit there as well!

When are you doin your swap?

 

Cleaned the carpets/upholstery with Woolite and put in new floor mats. That stuff is magical.

 

I almost bought those, I wasn't sure so I ordered the 3/4" ones of Amazon.

 

Probably a belt.

 

But only at sharp turns?

 

Check your fluid at least to eliminate that possibility, look at the belts abs see if they need to be replaced and look at the rack to see if it's leaking. Is not like anyone can give you a perfect answer without more details or looking at your truck

 

This is a pretty common indication that your PS pump will need to be replaced at some point in the near-ish future. You can wait until the scream is frequent and obnoxious and then wait some more. You'll know it's time to change the pump when you frequently lose power steering ability on turns. A quick fix to get rid of the noise is to clean the screen at the bottom of the pump, but this will not extend the life of the pump at all. It will still need to be replaced at some point in the next 5k to 25k miles regardless.

 

The belt is more likely to sequel the harder you turn especially if you are turning and there is back pressure on the wheels (like turning against a curb or the stop).

 

If it only squeals during hard cornering or when the rack reaches the stops (or for a few minutes when cold) then it is most likely just the belt tension. When the tension is too loose then the belt slips under heavy load but seems to be fine under normal driving when the steering is lightly loaded.

 

Finished painting plastic fender molding with Dipit. Tomorrow tackle the front struts, then all that is left is plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets. Then some time off to take of some Honey Do's then new rear spring poly bushing and steering rack bushings. Some time in the near future will take it in and have Trans fluid flushed and new trans filter. I did change the 3qt in the pan it's due the whole thing. By then Trout Season will open in the Sierras.
