I'm betting Zero. Then again I trust no one, sometimes not even me. :)

Toyota's stance on the automatics seems to be they fully trust in the "sealed" aspect of the design. I haven't heard a single dealership employee say anything about the possibility of there being a mistake with an auto transmission. Set it and forget it is the only attitude I've gotten, so I seriously doubt that is ever checked unless you bring the truck in for transmission related symptoms.

I am fully aware of what Toyota care covers. I wasn't asking for a freebie. I was fully prepared to pay them to grease the drive line. I asked them to perform a job for me and they failed. Twice. That's the reason for me being upset about this. The only thing the tech did on the first trip was rotate the tires. Even though there were 3 line items on the work order.

I'm curious if these toyotacare sessions are the dealership following the prescribed maintenance that is in the owner's manual? If so, isn't "lubricate propeller shaft 4WD" (driveshaft) in there at every 15K maintenance interval for second gens? Shouldn't the dealership follow the maintenance schedule their own company prescribes?

I took my truck in for the 5,000 mile oil change / tire rotation

The Service Writer said I should be "in and out"

    2 hours later... (seriously ???)

I don't know why they don't have an "express" oil change set up at my particular dealership .... :(

and this is why you never ever have the dealer do simple things like oil changes if you are able to do so yourself.

OP you shoulda asked for an OEM bed mat, then never went back to the dealer and just do it yourself.

Apparently you missed my point. I, too, knew it was not included and did not expect a "freebie". I asked about it, the service manager said she'd note it and take care of it at no charge, and it didn't get done. I figured you'd find relief in not being the only one who got ignored on the same issue, but apparently that wasn't what your rant/humor me post was looking for.

I misunderstood what you said I was thinking that you thought it was part of the Toyota care...

    My mistake.

Gotcha, yeah I didn't read it the way you explained it. It amazes me how more and more people go to work, not do their jobs, get paid for it, and continue to keep their jobs. In my line of work, I'd be out on my a** before lunch.

Already have one, but nice idea. Again, this has to be a fluke. Nothing is perfect and their service dept has been great for the last 10 years. Same service manager.

They did what they do for a synthetic toyota care visit at 15k. So he rotated the tires (I verified that was done) and fluids and inspection.

Nope, i dont trust a toyota dealership as far as i could throw my truck after being met but idiots at all 4 of the dealerships in my area. The first one almost started my truck without oil in it.... luckily i was standing right there and yelled at the oil change boy.... i had just been under my truck showing the head service mechanic how to use an angle finder on the driveline cus he couldnt even come close to wrap his head around how to do it. Rather sad.

    Same as everybody else...
I use plastic modeling white paint, comes in a little bottle, and paint the mileage on the filter. When I go to the dealership I remove the rubber fitting on the oil filter port. Before I drive off of the lot I check the oil level, put the fitting back on and give the engine a once over. I just did my first oil change yesterday, nice not to have to worry about it being done right.

Good thing you checked behind the "tech." Think about how many people probably didnt.

I prefer to do my own basic service like changing the own oil and replacing filters. As long as you keep detailed logs and receipts, the warranty will still be valid. Also, it doesn't take long to do and you save a lot of money.

Stop taking your truck to the dealer!

They pull this crap all the time. They probably train their techs to not change oil filters or oil to save $$$ and time.
You own a 2015. Was the oil light reset when you picked it up? I bet yes, which means the guy knew to change the oil, he just tried to pull a fast one. His manager knows that and is trying to be all nicey nice.

You are shooting yourself in the foot by going to the dealer. Which means if you go, don't complain about bad service.

Doesn't anyone change their own oil anymore?

I have heard too many horror stories about cross threaded drain plugs and over or under filled oil pans. Oil changes are usually done by the junior member of the garage, you guys that take your $35k+ truck to the local kwiky lube or Wallyworld are living dangerously.

I keep a stash of oil and filters on hand and can change the oil & filter in around 20 minutes start to finish. There is no way that I am going to dick around with an oil change place.

Having a Matrix for a while got me out of the habit of my own oil changes. For a while. Had to lift up the front end to get under there and it had one of those new cartridge oil filters which I'd never changed before. Then I sold the Matrix and got an '89 beater pickup and went back to doing my own. When I got my new Taco, like the Matrix I appreciated the value of the free service for two years. I think it's nice to let them give you the impression that it's all being taken care of in a quality way. Just like any comforting illusion.

But I've seen questionable stuff (described in other thread) so I took the truck to my own mechanic, had him put in some Mobil1 and look things over. I'm going to do changes by myself from here on out. With the 1GR-FE having the oil filter right on top, oil change on the Taco may be the easiest of any vehicle I've ever owned.

I found it really irritating that at close to 16K miles last time I let the dealer touch it, the service report said air filter and cabin air filter were dirty, but not dirty enough to change. After the svc mgr gave me that info and went back to his desk, I bought an air filter from the parts desk then went out into the parking lot and changed it. I ordered a couple cabin air filters from Amazon and will change that sometime before long.

This thread is definitely making me wonder if they ever rotated my tires. Going to check tread depth front/rear to see if the wear is uneven. I'm a couple hundred miles shy of 20K right now, and I wouldn't mind getting another 10-15K out of the OE tires. I 4-wheel a lot, so I don't want them at significantly different diameter.
