*THE RTT Owners Thread (With BS)*

I considered the Smittybuilt but I'm going with CVT. I do a lot of research on products before I buy and the bad reviews from Smittybuilt were 20 to 1 vs CVT. Yes, half the cost is VERY tempting but very rarely do I ever come across someone with an issue with a CVT. Maybe a broken strap or buckle here and there and that's it. I see issues with smittybuilt all the time like ripped canvas, leaks, seams that aren't sewn all the way together, broken supports etc.

I have no personal experience with them but it seems like it's a "get what you pay for" type product. For me I'll buy once, cry once and be done with it. Just throwing my 1.5 cents out there.

 

Show me some pics of a ripped smittybilt. Not saying you're lying but 20:1 is pretty steep. More than enough to deter anyone here who already has one not to have one.

A buddy just picked up a knock off RTT, and we spotted all the differences this past weekend comparing to the groups genuine Tepui's. Not sure how Tepui's compare to the other main brands, but there are subtle differences between the no-name.

• Weak velcro straps
• No rigid bar in door flaps
• Telescoping ladder shorter, also has to be closed step by step.
• Did not want to close without a tremendous amount of stress when bedding was kept inside.

Buddy is out of luck as there is no name, customer service or parts available for it.

 

Well for everyone else's sake, I hope their RTTs are up to par with the other guys. I've just been scarred on the trail and for me, I'd rather just stay away from them overall. But if you google shittybilt or even look up the hashtag, you'll see a lot of stuff. So if anything, that should say something. Even heep guys call it shittybilt.

 

You said your buddy has one. How does it look like it's made?

 

It's pretty Similar to mine in quality id say. Mine is brand unknown since my cover is just grey but I would say I'd sleep in it no problem

 

Good to hear. Shit I'm going to give it a try wtf. If I don't like it then I'll just get a name brand one day.

 

I spent time in various other expo and jeeo forums reading up on stuff and those are the most common issues that most the owners talk about. Again, I have no real world experience with them so I'm not speaking first hand. My own personal opinion is I would rather spend extra now rather than take the gamble and waste money. To each their own though.

 

Fair enough. I was wondering about where these rips occur and if they're due to manufacture error or user error. To those who want a smittybilt RTT, i personally say go for it, others say nay, at the end of the day its your checkings account/credit card. Any smittybilt users on here wanna chime in once more and give an honest impression.
