We drove out there in her xterra which gets HORRIBLE gas mileage (16 mpg highway naked going with the wind). Its 1400 miles, about 21 hours in total. There was a point on I-70 in kansas where I got 190 miles on a tank. The winds were very strong across the plains. I barely made it to Hays and I filled up when we left Salina. We had the back filled up with her stuff, both of us, one of our golden retrievers, and a bike on the roof. Keep in mind this was at the height of gas prices and the "shortage". We spent about $400 in gas to get out there. The speed limit on I-70 through much of kansas is 75mph so if you aren't doing atleast 85 you get run over. That doesn't help gas mileage very much.

Another sucky part of that drive is that McDonalds is all there is to eat. YUCK!

She has accumulated more stuff since she got out there so thats why I may drive my truck out there. She has an Acura MDX now so if its cheaper to put a hitch reciever on it and get one of those hitch mounted basket cargo carriers than driving my truck, I may do that.

I am from Northern GA- originally Michigan until two years ago. I have driven my Tacoma to and from Michigan a couple times with Spouse and two kids loaded bed under tonneau.

Avergae Highway speed 80+ = Avg. MPG 16.5. not bad for going thru the mountains etc.

Nice place to live - close enough to everything but far enough I can still be a country boy.
