a/c drain hose on 2005 TT

Finding the source of a leak can be a real pain in the ass. Dealing with it right now on my wifes Pilot. Checked the moonroof drain tubes and AC drains, both of which were fine. Turned out being a seam had a pinhole between the firewall and another section of the body. Caulked it up this past weekend, it rained today so Ill see when I get home tonight if it worked.

I feel your pain, diagnosing water issues is no fun.

 

No, I haven't heard any water sloshing !

 

But I still don't understand how all the pine straw and small leaves, got on top of the "cabin filter" ? Anybody got any explanation for that ? When I pulled my filter out, yes, it was filthy, but what shocked me, was that the space where the filter was, immediately filled with pine straw and leaves (?) I got them out, but how to they get in there ?

 

The intake for the cabin filter is right below the front windshield on the passenger side. If you remove the windshield wipers and the trim pieces below it, you will see the area where the fan gets its air from. Sometimes water can collect in there and cause mold. It's worth cleaning out annually before warmer weather because you never know what can get trapped in there.

 

This is below the black thing under your windshield wipers. It's how fresh air gets into your truck when the Windows are up. A lot of people have problems with rats getting in there and making nest.

You can see from the picture this guy has put wire over it to prevent rats from entering. But you could also put screen (window screen) over it to keep Pinestraw and leaves out

So, I need to remove the entire windshield wiper(s), and then remove the black plastic cover, and then this big hole will be visible ? Ok, so then put screen wire over the hole to keep out the debris...........?

Is this something easily removed? I've never actually removed a windshield wiper, or the cover below them............!

 

Windshield wipers might be hard to remove on an older car.
- Find a small flathead. Tape it up to protect the plastic.
- Remove the plastic cover on the base of the windshield wiper arm. Take off the nut.
- Now remove the entire arm by pulling it out. Sometimes if you lift it straight out, it will pop off with moderate effort. Other times it will be stuck on there pretty good. In that case you can use a bearing puller to pop it off or very very carefully pry it out with a pry bar. The plastic trim piece is pretty straight forward. I don't remember how many clips hold it together, but I don't recall having problems removing it.

To access it you really done even have to take the wipers off. All you need to do is pop hood. Go to pass anger side of engine, Locate the retention clip in the corner, remove it and lift up. If you do that you can access it. I have accessed mine many many times that way. Even had my snorkel ran into it for almost a year.

I would love to know more about the "snorkel" (?). Maybe I'm thinking about something different (as in swimming, diving, etc) than you are referring to, but still, why would you have one running in there for nearly a year ??? I'm not being critical, but I just can't visualize what you are talking about.

Obviously, all of that is way, way, above my pay grade..........still don't have a clue as to the "snorkel", but at least, I think I know where the cabin air intake is located - I think ! I'll try to take a look soon. I think in one of those pictures, I was looking at the top side of the cabin air filter, through the cabin air intake hole. There actually appeared to be a leaf, or some kind of trash in there. I believe that's the place I need some screen wire. I still don't understand, if trash and debris can accumulate in there, why doesn't water run in also. Maybe that will be evident, once I get into it...............

 

Ok, I did this, but I used a double thickness of screen wire. I've got it covered real well. Dust & dirt, maybe - straw & leaves, NO ! Now, the only problem is, putting the small piece of cowling back on. I have absolutely worked for 2 - 3 hours+, bruised and cut my hands, and I still can not get the end piece to snap back into position. It just won't go back down flush with the main cowling. There are only two small connecting tabs, and both are in place, but the pieces will not mesh up together, flush.

Also, is there something keeping water from running down into this opening. The cowling sure doesn't seem to be really tight, on the bottom edge of the windshield. I suppose this isn't really suppose to be a watertight seal, and I see no evidence of water running down into the air intake, but it just seems it should be more - watertight ?

Any suggestions or insight - anyone ?

 

I sure hope you are right. This would surely be the simplest remedy.........

 

It is designed to not have a water tight seal. Water that rolls down your window can and will enter. The water will escape through the drain holes befor filling up enough to enter the cabin entrance. So no need to worry!

 

So there are drain holes, inside of the intake walls, but outside of the actual opening to the cabin filter ? Is this correct ?
