Good idea, crappy gun for it. Just my opinion

If you're a decent machinist (and from what you said you are) I'd start with a 9mm AR barrel and make an integral 9mm barrel for an AR, maybe a 7" barrel with a pinned shroud on it and baffles?

I've got an integrally suppressed ruger 22/45, lots of fun

    Should be the second video

    It's not too detailed.

So I'm thinking about trading in my gen 3 glock 17 for something a little more lefty friendly. Anyone have any idea how much I can expect to get in trade value from a LGS?

How urgent is getting a new gun? You'll always get more from a private sale than trading it in..

It's not urgent at all. It's more that I have never sold a firearm privately or to a dealer in trade so I'm not at all knowledgeable about the proper process and figured working with a dealer would ensure the correct process was completed. Any good resources you would suggest for me to read as far as learning the process for a private sale?

Not sure how the market is where you are, but every Glock I've sold privately, I've gotten current retail for them.
I will only sell to a person with a valid CWL.

You basically just both show up to the shop, they do the paperwork, and the buyer has a new gun. @Ice Horse works in a gun shop in CO so she might be able to tell you the specifics for CO.

In PA we have an extra form to fill out for the state police where the sellers personal info is listed if the seller isn't the transferer (ie, if I buy directly from a shop, no info. If I buy from a private party or online, their info is listed.) This COULD be seen as a negative because now a stranger knows your personal info...but again thats a PA specific form so I'm unsure if there is anything like that for you.

Depends on your state, like @pittim said @Ice Horse should be able to help you with that.
In my state you can sell to anyone who can possess a firearm, no FFL (gun shop)involved.
Some people won't sell handguns to people under 21 even though it's legal, and some people will require you to show a concealed carry permit so they know you can legally possess firearms.

It took me a while to find someone with an M&P 40 that they would sell me since I was under 21 (and that means no carry permit in my state) even though I could legally buy one, as long as it wasn't from a FFL.

Thanks for the advice, I will have a can for a 22 as soon I get my paperwork back so I think I will have that base covered.
Yeah crappy gun but I thought it would be fun to experiment. Unfortunately I have stayed away from AR's due to keeping the health of my bank account and marriage. I know I'd spend too much on too many builds, so I thought I could build a suppressed Hipoint for sub $600 after tax stamp

Yep i love being in AZ i bought a G19 private sale when i was 19 no ffl or any paperwork involved. I could only open carry it but I only intended to carry it at the range/out in the desert anyway. Permitless concealed carry is legal here as well. Though there are benefits to getting your permit anyway.

@mountainmonkey there are enough people that are in CO that browse this thread that you could probably sell it to somebody through here haha.

If it's like new with all the stuff from the factory, I'd say anywhere from $375 to $425 is a fair price since new you can buy them all day for $500. Dealer trade in will probably be around $300 or so.

You used to be able to just sell a gun to anybody, but recently you now have to run a background check on buyers.

In Colorado, essentially you bring it to an FFL dealer with the buyer. Buyer fills out 4473 just like normal and dealer runs a background check on the buyer. If all is fine and dandy you guys can exchange money. There's normally a fee along with it. We charge $30 for personal transfers and the background check is $7. But they are lowering it to $6 next month.

I resisted for a coupe years.....I'm at 3 now and have a 9mm or .45 planned (haven't decided which) you could build the hi point for that price if your a machinist with any kind of skill. I'd recommend building a stand alone can rather than an integral. I bought the integral pistol and within a month I was wanting to suppress a rifle.

If your on Facebook you should join the group form 1 cans. Plenty of information there on building your own

What weapon light would you guys recommend for a G21. I'm debating buying one to have on it when I'm out camping for just in case something goes bump in the night.

I do not need the most expensive one out there by any means.

I really like my TLR-1 on my M&P, it's a very common light that most holsters (Such as the safari land SLS or ALS) have allotments for.
It's really bright but not to bright for indoor use, and runs on 2 CR123 batteries.

streamlight and viridian are probably the top 2 for pistol lights since they're fairly compact. surefires are kinda bulky on pistols imo
