Is there a way I could make the crawl box linkage come up thru the can cup holder on the manual transmission?

If so then you could put the j shift in the shifter boot corner and then still have both cup holders.

You have made the right choice for the FJ case my friend :D. As for the twin sticks, I would say since you are putting in a crawl box you don't need them at all, now you will control the front ADD actuator with the switch at any time so essentially you have 2 gearsets of 2lo. Twin sticks do look moar bad ass tho :)

So if you are swapping transfer cases on an automatic tacoma with a FJ case is there any real logic behind doing twin sticks? Or is it merely the "cool" factor at that point?

Also if not doing a twin stick is it just a simple swap (minus the wiring needed and extra hole in the cab) and nothing real "custom"?

How many of you have had the transfer case actuator go out?

Cause ive been through water/mud and the only one i damaged was the pos ADD actuator, in which case the fj case wouldnt fix that.

If you're talking about the short throw kit for the davez twin sticks, that would be me. Wyatt got one from me ;)

I'll keep that in mind Mark, thanks for the heads up. I'm going to stick with the J-shift until I pony up for tons.

I'm assuming your kit works specifically with the davez setup and not with the factory shifter, correct?

I have no desire to open up and modify a working Tcase. That's just my though. I won't be twin sticking mine.

From what I've seen the crawl box shifter is going to come up right behind the transmission shifter, so out the same opening. The J-shifter for the FJ transfer case is the question. Don't know which hole it's going to want to poke out of. :D

If you're keeping the j-shift you just extend the shift pawl on the stock shifter, I have the bases that space it up, moving the fulcrum up and the throw down, lol. I have them cut in 1/4" thickness so you can run one or two depending on how much throw you want. The only difference is with the davez kits, I include the pawls, one set 1/4" longer and one 1/2" longer.

I like the looks of that. Wouldn't that be the same placement for all the automatics?

Maybe one day my interior will match.

Except mine is going to look like this.

    DSC03466Copy_zpsb99407e8_740dbf7b81c4ae7de86f0b04cfd352fabc549202.jpg

That's the crawl box shifter sticking through. The J-shift for the transfer case will be behind that somewhere.

    ,

Mine started making some weird ass noises then totally stopped working on me. And of all the threads I've seen ppl with 4wd problems they have no idea what actuator is broken and usually replace both LOL. With the FJ case it eliminates half the electronics, thereby eliminating half the failure modes of the crap 4wd system that toyota now makes. It's the soccer mom, text and 4wd on the go while eating mcdonalds kind of fucktards that have ruined the popularity of old school manual hub/transfer case vehicles. Unfortunately Toyota also drank the kool aid and tended to the market and left the old school 4x4 guys in the dust, but their designs for these systems are lacking reliability. The funny part is that most of the people that buy the trucks/SUVs for 4wd never use them as they are intended so if they see a blinking 4wd light they problably think everything is working fine.

It's only a couple bolts and you grind one shift rail, only takes half a day. As long as you put everything back the way you found it there's really no way to mess it up.
